Obama government to regulate sport fishing

You wouldn't happen to be a "gamer" would you?

My kids are "gamers." Love to play computer video games.

They don't like fishing with me either. They say it's a boring ass waste of time as well.

Then they retire to their bedroom's 24/7 and sit in front of a computer monitor, hypnotized into a computer screen with some kinda "controller" in their hand. Scary.

Point. It's very unique as to what people consider to be boring. Curling. Golf. Computer games. Fishing. Soccor. Hunting.

I find fishing to be an awesome pastime and boring is never in the equation the way I roll. ;)

I used to be when I was in high school. Don't get me wrong, I'm an active person, I love to workout, play tennis, ride my bicycle, etc.

Communists should NOT try to care.. it beyond their mental capacity to understand the value of liberty... :2wave:

I agree, when you find one we can tell him together.

Right on. I also shoot my compound bow on a regular basis. I also agree with your golf analysis. I don't know where you hunt but I assure you there are no sissies in my deer camp. I don't understand soccor nor do I care. Nascar is 90% boring as watching paint dry (but that 10% keeps me tuned in.) I don't spar anymore but I wish I could (older age is a bitch.:3oops:)
I've always considered hunting with a rifle to be somewhat of a sissy thing to do. You've got a canon to take down the deer and it has no real chance of escape unless you miss. I've talked to people who go spear hunting, as in they take an actual spear, a long knife, a short knife, good shoes, and kill what they're going after with the spear. THAT is hunting, THAT takes balls. Sitting in a tree all day with deer pheremones smeared on a tree, that's waiting.

However, from my personal perspective, nothing I have witnessed compares on the boring scale as high as gaming does. So I can understand how somebody else might consider fishing to be boring, even if I can't understand their reasoning. The gamer would probably disagree with my assessment of their pastime as well.
It depends on the game. I truly believe there is a game out there for EVERYBODY and it's just a matter of finding it. A good game gets your heart racing and your forehead sweating, it's a real rush.

If I may ask, what is your experience/exposure to games?

My Grandfather talked me into doing just that when I was 14 YO............. got my ass kicked by that deer. :doh

What? I can't fish an area to extinction or use lures made out of toxic materials? This is an outrage! As an American, it is my god-given right to kill, destroy, and consume until this entire planet is a lifeless hunk of rock! My personal liberty allows it!

Did anybody read this and look for specifics? Do you even know what "rights" are being "taken away?"

There aren't any.

For all the sport fishermen out there

If there were say 100 big mouth bass left in the US and there was 2000 sport fishermen trying to catch those 100 fish that were left. Would you want someone regulating the number of fishermen, so that next year their would be at least 2 big mouth bass left to fish?

Or should it be a free for all, during the short period of time that the big mouth bass were still around.

Afterall they could go after cat fish after the big mouth bass are gone

Sounds like deer hunting to me. :rofl

How about we make sure next year there are at least 101 fish left. And the year after that at least 102. And so on and so forth so that our great grandchildren can catch big mouth bass too.

I go fishing at least once every 2 weeks without my license and I never pay my fee's to lunch the boat. This proposal by Obama won't stop me from fishing because I'm used to getting around stupid laws like this all the time. If it does pass, people need to stand up and fish anyway... But I hope it doesn't pass.

I caught 4 large cat fish and a gar in Toledo Bend last week
Get them out of your freezer and let them go. :2wave: Next thing you know they'll be banning As-salt rods. :lamo

Liberty!? What the **** does FISHING have to do with liberty!?

Well.. your definition of liberty obviously differs from mine.. so I'll explain Liberty in lieu of looking it up for yourself..

If I want to do something the does not infringe someone else's rights and it is not an enumerated power under the Constitution, it is a Liberty...

...Centrist my ass!

NO we would pass creel limits and organize fishing associations... wait a minute.. we've already done that and it works GREAT!

Sweetmother of moses!:doh

This is not about fishery management.. it is about UN control of our waters!

The power to regulate fishing is clearly constitutional.

But you're missing the bigger picture, of course. If you catch all the damn fish, others lose their liberty to catch some - and yours too once they're gone.

I seriously think there is going to be a day when we are going to have to tell the U.N. we're out and they are on their own, they are incompatible with the American lifestyle, much like Obama and other progressive globalists within our borders.

Does it?

Give it a rest already.

When did 90% of the rightwing turn into a giant, internet-rumor fueled paranoid conspiracy theory?

That's the first thing I do when I read an article like this.

First off, it says "could" limit fishing. If it did limit it they'd be pointing to the specifics inside any particular bill. This is the same as all the paranoid people screaming about him taking our guns, closing down farmer's markets, banning the sale of pets across state lines, etc. It's all BS.

Got some news for ya. Sport fishing has all ready been regulated beyond rediculous.

Just a couple of years ago the powers that be decided that I can only take two gag grouper and 2 black grouper and no more than 4 total in the combination. And now they gotta be 22" long. Gotta use circle hooks.

Hardly worth the 50 mile offshore trip.

This went down before Obama too. Under Bush, if I recall. Where were you then?

Nah, it's gotta be the lib'rals' fault, somehow. They'll find a way.

Baaaaaaaa-ad Conservative Sheeple

Of course something's fishy here. It's the never-ending attempt by the right to take a bunch of nothing and spin it into Obama-blaming FEARRRR~!!!!!!

Here's what I've found on this fabricated non-issue:

Today on his television show Glenn Beck joined with other conservatives like Rush Limbaugh in suggesting President Obama was about to ban all fishing in the United States. Beck is actually behind the curve on this particular conspiracy theory as the "Obama will ban fishing story" started going viral on the internet two days ago. So where did this all start?

An ESPN opinion blogger named Robert Montgomery wrote an article in which he suggested that President Obama could, and I stress could, ban fishing throughout the country. In support of his contention Montgomery cited no law before Congress and no regulation before a federal agency. Instead he basically stated that Obama is friendly with environmental groups and this will undoubtedly lead him to ban fishing.

Despite these facts the conservative world was quick to jump on the story and millions of their loyal followers have subsequently believed the conspiracy theory. Gateway Pundit, Michelle Malkin, and Rush Limbaugh have all in some way pushed the "Obama to ban fishing" story. Today Beck finally joined the bandwagon. --Seattle Examiner

I appreciate the update Glinda. But you need not bother.

We're all hip to the fear factor thing.

The only one's it does work on is already in their flock and most likely will always remain. So, no harm, no foul.

If it keep's 'em outta trouble, let cry the wolf thing. Nobody's listening.

Here's the big scandal:

Office of Sustainable Fisheries

Fish are disappearing. Overfishing makes it worse. That's life. Don't blame the government for rationing a declining resource in order to save it, blame the causes of the decline - overfishing, loss of wetlands, pollution, etc.

First, you say it's BS. Then, you you support the government's over-regulation of fishing. Greeeeeaaaaaat.

How about we make sure next year there are at least 101 fish left. And the year after that at least 102. And so on and so forth so that our great grandchildren can catch big mouth bass too.

That's why sportsmen purchase hunting/fishing licenses...to help fund wildlife and wildlife habitat conservation.

PBO is trying to get voted out. Legislation like this, that will have an obvious negative economic impact, plus will strip away our liberties are a sure fired way to get one's ass voted out of *write in whichever public office here*.

Anyone, even Leftward leaning Americans that can't see their rights being taken away needs to wake up.

I wouldn't support sweeping legislation that makes blanket rules for all species across the nation, but I would support it if it dealt with localized population levels. For example, in Atlantic Canada there are bans on fishing for cod at certain times of year or for a couple of years when populations plummet. Ever since the invention of modern fishing technology, populations have been harvested beyond sustainable levels.

The government implements bans to let the populations regroup, and then lifts to bans to allow industry to thrive.

This is the future for our coasts and lakes. If we want to have sustainable salt water and fresh water food populations for the future, balanced regulation is necessary.

First, you say it's BS.

It is.

Then, you you support the government's over-regulation of fishing. Greeeeeaaaaaat.

I was referring to the post I made about the actual regulation, as opposed to the mythical over-regulation.

That's why sportsmen purchase hunting/fishing licenses...to help fund wildlife and wildlife habitat conservation.

Yet some species are still plummeting. It's not enough.

I don't think there will be any additional limits on sport fishing in most areas. Sport fishing isn't the problem. But it will suffer if something isn't done.

ABOSOFREEKINLUETY it WORKS...!!

Simple things like adjusting a size limit from 12" to 16" does amazing things in a RESPONSIBLE manor... over time.

Closing a fishery for one species (like the snapper closing)does horrible things.. It massively increases one part of the food chain annihilating the lower parts of the chain and overfeeds that above it... what happens then is the "protected" species population soars temporarily, it's food species are wiped out.. It's predators expand first then the "protected" species starves as it's food source nears extinction, followed by it's hyper-inflated predator population... the entire system then crashes...

You CAN NOT do it this way! This is what is happening in the Fla. Gulf waters today.. ask ANY fisherman or dive-boat operator in that area... PLEASE DO ASK THEM.

AGAIN this NOT about saving poor little fishies!
