PBO is trying to get voted out. Legislation like this, that will have an obvious negative economic impact, plus will strip away our liberties are a sure fired way to get one's ass voted out of *write in whichever public office here*.

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

Obama moving to limit fishing access - ESPN

Anyone, even Leftward leaning Americans that can't see their rights being taken away needs to wake up.

And they call me a "birther" when I say he's unAmerican.

You ain't gotta tell me, dude...:rofl

Didn't mean to derail your thread..... I saw this story this morning and said to myself..... I said self, next thing they are going to try to take away is my right to breath. Then I saw the thread on the EPA and CO2 emissions and thought, too late.

I sometimes wonder if Barry is long stocks in a rope manufacturer….. Or maybe he’s just stupid!

It's all good. The Leftists probably wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, anyhow. Except to start some off the wall argument about how I really support socialism, because I don't support fishing regulation, or something...

Jesus H Christ..... I live in Oregon and the regulations to catch, and keep a Salmon or Steelhead takes a lawyer to try to figure out, and he would have to take a minor degree in Fish and Game laws to have a 1/2 chance of being right. I actually asked a F and G guy if I had the law straight (before I was going to go fishing for the above) and he wasn't sure himself if I had the laws right or not.... he didn't know!!!!!!!!!!!

Might be simpler if they just ban the whole hunting and fishing thing anyway…. Why not? They won’t let us cut our own trees so the timber industry is dead. Might as well kill the commercial fishing industry completely dead instead of ¾’s dead the way it is now, then kill tourism, and we can all go on welfare… ****’um.

[/rant] :2wave:

The article doesnt have a lot of substance to it and seems more like a big long rant than anything serious.

It doesnt mention any specific legislation, no proposed amendments to current legislation, or in fact any concrete plans at all.

I go fishing at least once every 2 weeks without my license and I never pay my fee's to lunch the boat. This proposal by Obama won't stop me from fishing because I'm used to getting around stupid laws like this all the time. If it does pass, people need to stand up and fish anyway... But I hope it doesn't pass.

I caught 4 large cat fish and a gar in Toledo Bend last week

That's just it, I dont see any new proposed legislation.

I am an avid hunter and fisherman.

I didn't believe the "Obama's coming to take your guns" crowd way back when, and go out and buy up all the ammunition, and I was right.

I don't think the mean old "socialist, muslim, black-racist, Kenyan" is coming for my fishing rod either.

Is this some of that "fear" tactic the GOP was teaching last week from their marketing playbook?

The words out man.

Get a new strategy. Don't think this one's gonna work anymore now that the cat is officially out of the bag.

Just sayin'....

I've never fished in my life, and I probably never will because its a boring-ass waste of time. Why should I care?

See, someone could easily make that argument ... I guess ...

I don't know why I'm posting this.

Communists should NOT try to care.. it beyond their mental capacity to understand the value of liberty... :2wave:
Liberty!? What the **** does FISHING have to do with liberty!?

very interesting, but i didn't see ANYTHING specific in this op-ed that tells us what exactly is going to happen.

and interestingly enough, the word SOME was left out of your quote? hmmm....

The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing some of the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.

You wouldn't happen to be a "gamer" would you?

My kids are "gamers." Love to play computer video games.

They don't like fishing with me either. They say it's a boring ass waste of time as well.

Then they retire to their bedroom's 24/7 and sit in front of a computer monitor, hypnotized into a computer screen with some kinda "controller" in their hand. Scary.

Point. It's very unique as to what people consider to be boring. Curling. Golf. Computer games. Fishing. Soccor. Hunting.

I find fishing to be an awesome pastime and boring is never in the equation the way I roll. ;)

As a "gamer", I feel compelled to speak up.

I also find fishing a boring pursuit, I find hunting (except for rare kinds) a sissy sport, golf to be the last vestige of people who WANT to seem athletic but cant anymore, and soccer to be far too regimented.

It might also interest you to know I practice archery (Albeit at the beginner level currently), I play regular games of murderball (Not the "we use rubber balls" kind, the "there are fewer rules than players on a team" kind), and I full contact spar on a regular basis, I'm quite proficient with a spear at this point.

Dont lift a brush too big to wield

Your Constitutional right to fish?

By the way, this story is bull**** anyway. It's the latest in a long, long line of false, distorted stories the rightwing falls for every time. Yet they never seem to learn from the experience and they just go on to the next one.

Right on. I also shoot my compound bow on a regular basis. I also agree with your golf analysis. I don't know where you hunt but I assure you there are no sissies in my deer camp. I don't understand soccor nor do I care. Nascar is 90% boring as watching paint dry (but that 10% keeps me tuned in.) I don't spar anymore but I wish I could (older age is a bitch.:3oops:)

However, from my personal perspective, nothing I have witnessed compares on the boring scale as high as gaming does. So I can understand how somebody else might consider fishing to be boring, even if I can't understand their reasoning. The gamer would probably disagree with my assessment of their pastime as well.

But hey, some people get their rocks off sitting in a rocking chair reading a romance novel. I suppose we all have our selective boredoms.

Here's the big scandal:

Office of Sustainable Fisheries

Fish are disappearing. Overfishing makes it worse. That's life. Don't blame the government for rationing a declining resource in order to save it, blame the causes of the decline - overfishing, loss of wetlands, pollution, etc.

We certainly need regulation in order to sustain our commercial fisheries. But I'm skeptical that this isn't just another ploy to create a revenue stream. I remember once when they were making similar claims about oil. Gas lines were blocks long. That was 30 years ago. Looks like we suddenly made more oil. I don't think so.

However, on a sporting perspective, sportsmen are far better capable of regulating themselves than the government ever will be.

I got an idea for a bumper sticker or two:

"They will get my rod and reel when they pry it from my cold, dead hand."

"When fishing poles are outlawed, only outlaws will have fishing poles."

Wadda ya think?
