Palin: I snuck to Canada for healthcare

Re: Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

Sayyyy what?
Yeah, it was called Alasky until they changed the name....

Re: Palin used to sneak to Canada for healthcare

As funny as this is, I'd like to see more proof of it before I would consider it valid.

That said, I wouldnt be terribly surprised were it true.

You mean you want Palin to produce a receipt for services or an x-ray?

Well even if it is true, I doubt you can hold a 5 year old Palin responsible for where her parents took her brother for medical treatment. And hell, I don't even hold her parents responsible for it. If it came down to taking the three hour trip to the Haines ferry and then the ferry to juneau versus taking the klondike highway over to Whitehorse, I imagine I would probably go to Whitehorse, too.

That and the fact that the Yukon didn't have socialized medicine in the 1960's anyway.

More than that, if it is where he would get the best care, the parents where acting responsibly. This whole thing is a nonissue.

Palin revealed this to tidbit to an amused crowd of Canadians.
So... she (as a child) and her family once found Canadian health care system more alluring than the coverage available in rural Alaska.

Not sure what the issue is.

Its also interesting that for the pro-socialist medicine, anti-Palin types, this is game, set, and match on the debate, but it's funny how when the hundreds of prominent people who live in single-payer systems come here for care, it doesn't mean a thing.

no, it wasn't russion terrority.

Alaska purchase

Check used to pay for Alaska.Main article: Alaska purchase
Financial difficulties in Russia, the desire to keep Alaska out of British hands, and the low profits of trade with Alaskan settlements all contributed to Russia's willingness to sell its possessions in North America. At the instigation of U.S. Secretary of State William Seward, the United States Senate approved the purchase of Alaska from Russia for $7,200,000. on April 9, 1867. This purchase was popularly known in the U.S. as "Seward's Folly,", "Seward's Icebox," or "Andrew Johnson's Polar Bear Garden" because it was a cold wasteland, only really containing polar bears and coldness and was unpopular at the time, though the later discovery of gold and oil would show it to be a worthwhile one.

After Russian America was sold to the U.S., all the holdings of the Russian–American Company were liquidated.

Your reply was bolded to make a point - and your inferring that meant that you already knew about the sale of the land? Okay.......:)
hint...1959

If the territory didnt belong to the Russians, to whom -did- it belong?

I think she was saying that by 1959 it was no longer a Russian territory, which is true. Though as I mentioned before, many people have the misconception about it being Russian territory for much longer than it was because the population consisted mostly of Russians and Alaska Natives even into the 20th century.

Check the dates

It was sold to the US in the 1800's

Making it a US territory untill it became a state in the 1950's

Sounds like a personal attack.

Re: Palin used to sneak to Canada for healthcare

If it was a joke, they should have added some canned laughter so we'd know, like they did when she was on Jay Leno.

I think that they should have added canned laughter so that Palm Reader Palin would know that it was a joke.

Re: Palin used to sneak to Canada for healthcare

I think she's a pathological liar. She says whatever she thinks of at the moment.

Yup, her mouth runs, she reads her palm, the mouth runs some more. She is the gift that keeps giving.

It's pretty clear the Liberals missed the point and if you hate me go ahead.

Here is something else to confuse the Liberals. The facts about when Canada started down the road to Socialized medicine get ignored, so what a bout this.

Sarah Palin never snuck into Canada.

This is a misquote.

What she said was:
My first five years of life we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse. Believe it or not – this was in the ‘60s – we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse and I think, isn’t that kind of ironic now. Zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada.

How does a 5 year old sneak into Canada and is she a hypocrite because her Mom and Dad took here there as Canada was just moving to Socialized system?

By the Way Russia says today that Alaska is still their territory and I say it was until it became a State officially, but that's just an opinion. And I know about the territory thing. What shocks me is that there is a liberal out there who could actually figure it out.

if palin was making the point that it was somehow detrimental to her family in her recounting how canada's socialized medical system tended to her brother's medical issue, while she was also insisting that a similar form of socialized medicine would be bad for other Americans, then there would be no hypocrisy

so, my question back to you is, was that the message palin was articulating in her description of her family's experience with socialized medicine?

if the answer is other than 'yes', then palin must be found to be a hypocrite

Go ahead and keep ignoring the facts and you'll grow up to be a good Obama supporter.

She was 5 socialized medicine was just getting under way and Doctors treat kids and don't play Liberal games in the process.

Be sure to stay in touch with Nancy Pelosi's office so you'll know what to say to this and what to think.
