Palin: I snuck to Canada for healthcare

Her family must have been poor if they had to go to Canada for health care.

If you were born in Alasks and had to travel a few hundred miles for free health care in Canada or travel a few hundred miles for health that was going to cost you money what would you do

Now remember the 60's did not have the MRI's or massively expensive chemodrugs that we currently have

Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/03/08/palin-canada-health.html?ref=rss

I'm sorry for having to commit a little hypocrisy by posting a Palin thread of my very own, but this is just too juicy to pass up.

Sarah Palin's weekend admission that her family once travelled to Canada to receive treatment under the public health-care system she's so often demonized prompted skepticism and ridicule Monday among her critics in the U.S.

"My first five years of life, we spent in Skagway, Alaska, right there by Whitehorse," the former Alaska governor and Republican vice-presidential candidate said Saturday night during a speech in Calgary.

"Believe it or not — this was in the '60s — we used to hustle on over the border for health care that we would receive in Whitehorse. I remember my brother, he burned his ankle in some little kid accident thing, and my parents had to put him on a train and rush him over to Whitehorse, and I think, isn't that kind of ironic now, zooming over the border, getting health care from Canada."

Looks like Canada has its own illegal immigrants abusing our health care too. ;)

Funny stuff.

First off where is the link to the story.

Secondly the 60s were not last week and the system is now completely different from pressures related to cost and volume.

Then there are questions about the availability of medical treatment in Skagway almost 50 years ago.

Alaska until 1959 was Russian territory it was not like living in down town L.A.

Canada didn't have Socialized Medicine until 1968 when it began and started down hill from there.

It's amazing that people love to play gotcha but then choose to ignore all the important information.

Oh by the way can I play GOTCHA! now

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING.

The U.S. Senate approved the purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire on March 30, 1867

Alaska - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As you can see, Alaska was NOT Russian Territory. It was purchased from Russia in 1867 and was a US Territory (after being governed by the military) by 1884. It became a STATE in 1959.

Even with your inaccurate information being said, I would question the availability of medical care in Skagway in the '60s. I'm not sure that Whitehorse was much better, but as the capital of the Yukon Territory, it probably was, so it would make sense to try to get the best medical care available.

Re: Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

"Captain, oh my Captain!" Question the availability of medical care in Skagway today! Much of the health care system in the Great Lands are run by public, and quasi-public agencies. I can't speak directly to Skagway from direct experience, but I could hazard and informed guess.

What was it like in the '60s? That's what the focus of this controversy is... something that I do not think is very controversial. Just another silly swipe at Palin about an issue that is not an issue.

When I was born we only had 49 states.

How is this hypocrisy? Canadian health care was not the all encompasing government run system in the late-1960s that it is today.

How does her crossing the border into the Yukon make her an illegal immigrant? Furthermore, it is clear from looking at a map of the area that travel to Whitehorse would be easier and quicker than to any other city.

You are old!

Why do we even care about this? What relevance does it have to anything?

Why does it always have to have relevance to you? Can't you just be normal for once?

So you think this attack on Palin has merit?

Re: Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

I don't care, I just wonder why you have to attack me because I just mentioned an aside because we were talking about states for a minute.

Moderator's Warning:
Stop it the two of you. And I STILL hate Palin threads.

Oh...I was not. Two different thoughts in one post. Sorry that was not clearer.

Re: Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

Especially when the Palin thread in question is a hyperpartisan, senseless post by the OP.

Actually I hate them all. If they don't start out that way, they always end up that way, hyperpartisan in one direction or the other.

No argument there ... and frankly, while I don't hate her like most leftists do, I have no love for her either and don't want her anywheres near the reins of power...

I would say that you and I are in complete agreement in that assessment.

I don't hate her (and I don't know any leftist who does), but I do fear her. I think she would do even more damage than Bush did.

It's CC's fault, he made you do that.

I always approve of blaming CC. I think we are agreed then, right and left coming together on an issue of real importance.

Re: Blogs abuzz about Palin's use of Canadian health care

Orion, look what you made me do! You made me thank Councilman. COUNCILMAN!

I feel dirty

Seriously she was:

1. A child, so she had no choice over the manner
2. Living in a part of the country in regards to medical service that likely few places in the country today are on par with
3. Not partaking in socialized medicine, as I'm pretty sure at that point Canada didn't have socialized medical care.

/Palin Attack fail
