Rangel 'did not know what HSBC was' - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

The embattled chairman of the House’s tax-writing committee told ethics investigators he was unaware of HSBC, one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world.

Ethics investigators were questioning Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) about corporations that paid for a conference in the Caribbean that Rangel attended. HSBC is one of the corporations that funded the conference.

Investigators also found that staffers for Rangel prepared a memo when HSBC was considering not sponsoring the conference. The memo offered suggestions on how Rangel could help prevent HSBC from bowing out.

HSBC later donated $25,000 for the trip to St. Maarten, $10,000 more than it provided to the same Caribbean conference the year before.

But when Rangel questioned by the ethics panel’s investigative subcommittee about the matter, Rangel said he “did not know what HSBC was,” according to a report issued by the ethics committee’s investigative subcommittee that reviewed the matter.

This **** is absolutely unreal. Just....wow.

So anyone else smelling the strong amount of BS coming out of Rangel right now?

Rangel is a Politician, they lie all the time.
What do you expect.

Oh hey a politician making laws about things he doesn't understand.

I am so shocked. Look at me. Do you see how shocked I am.

Time for him to leave.

There may be a gene at work here that comes into play when you reach a certain level in politics, I never got high enough for it to kick in on me if I have it at all.

It's the I can't tell right from wrong or a lie from the truth gene. We all know Obama has more than just one of these genes and just about everyone in both houses of Congress seems to be afflicted with it.

Rangal is about as useless as one can get and now it time for him to get out and off to jail.

Rangel is a Harlem gangster.

Rep. Charlie Rangel's admonishment for violating House gift rules "is not good," but his actions did not put the nation at risk in any material way, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday.

Pelosi said it is not her place to interfere in any investigations of the matter and said she would not get involved politically.

"But the fact is, is that what Mr. Rangel has been admonished for is not good," she said on ABC's "This Week." "It was a violation of the rules of the House. It was not a--something that jeopardized our country in any way."

Two bits says he skates.

I almost Believe him.
It's a sad admission and shows Ignorance.

But while he may have not known 'HSBC' (aka formerly Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bank Corp) was, or that it even was a Bank, he must have known those letters were a Corporate entity.

So the ethics problem remains.

There were company logos all over the place where he went.

If Rangle is not forced out then Pelosi should be impeached as a conspirator.

So what does it mean? I see it on my credit card email. I'll guess the B is for banking.

He and Marion Barry should hang out together. I'm glad that they are both getting what they deserve.

I'd say, from a man in his position, he should have know. Ignorance is no excuse...

I honestly don't think he was ignorant. He just wants us to believe he was ignorant.

No, I don't think so either. He's always oozed slimy corruption out of every pore...
