I find it odd this doesn't resonate a different tone with you, ss. This is a fairly eye opening poll you're discussing, if I had told you this would be your response argument in Feb of 2009, you'd suggest I seek help. Had anyone suggested in Feb 09 that we'd be looking at a 44% reelection chance for his Worshipness in Feb of 2010......they'd be imprisoned.

It depends on who the Repubs run? The Repub's election to win or lose? My, what a difference a year of attempted socialism makes.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that most of the American people would choose "none of the above" and try to see how our country gets along without a President for a term or two.
With two ongoing wars and no CiC I suggest you rethink that....thought.

BTW, I personally think it depends on 2010 as well. If Repubs win a House or two or make a serious dent and Obama doesn't move to the right.....the Repubs could run Best in Show at Westminister and win by 8 points.

It was the Austrasians, that hewed on bravely through the thick of the fight, it was they who found and cut down the Saracen King.

Nope, Reagan, Clinton and Bush 43 had big mid term losses in congress but won re-elections.

Also, the Gallup Daily: Obama Job Approval now shows the President's approval rate at 53%, a jump of six point in just the last three weeks.

Note that Reagan got down to 41% approval and then won 49 states in '84.

So is that the consensus here and if so why?

True he has had a somewhat tempestuous first year, seemingly achieving little of what he had aimed to accomplish, but thinking of Clinton in his first year, where he too seemed to make a hash of things, is it possible that the great messiah will accomplish something memorable during the remainder of his first term and then perhaps be electable for a second term?

No it's not. We have nothing to compare this to. Basically, you are arguing that one data point now is a revolution. Unlike other polls, which have been asking the same question for decades, this, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, is brand spanking new. When articles talk about deserving reelection, it's based on approval ratings, the same poll that's been done for years. Polls haven't run directly asking if a president deserves reelection.

My, what a difference a year of attempted socialism makes.
Which is amusing considering many of them enacted socialism themselves.

2012 is long time from now.

What is up with your thread title?

I'm not surprised by this. He ran on promises of hope, change and free money/services. Nothing is free when the government is involved. Hope and change were tied to the promised free money/services. As reality creeps back into the mind of voters, they sour on their candidate.

There are two things that might save Obama. One, he is liked personally by most voters. Two, right now there are no Republican challengers. Even if you think Obama has accomplished nothing and is a liar(politician). What Republican can claim to be any different?

******* The GOP is indeed devoid of a viable challenger without defects. More importantly as we divide further as a society the extremes take over the base in both partys. The Tea baggers & the Sarah Palin thhusiasts will corner any Republican not pure enough and on that basis a move to the center later on in a General Election might prove impossib;e

******* ALSO - demographics mean more and more - California because of Immigration is gone for the GOP and on that basis Any Democrat has a decided advantage.

******* Also - if someone like Romney is the opposition in 2012 to Obama - despite a probable still Rotten economy - some of the South might edge Democrat because of Fundamentalists & Evangelicals not voting for any Mormon . That combined with a good 95 % of the Black vote hanging in there with Obama will possibly make a difference in Georgia & Louisiana.

You underestimate the Religious Right's hatred of President Obama's stance on abortion. They will vote for a pro-life Mormon over a pro-choice Democrat any day.
