'Vegetative state' man responds to questions

The doctors thought he was, turns out that diagnosis was wrong and he was NOT in a vegetative state.

A mis-diagnosis is not the same as a condition reversing itself which is virtually impossible with severe brain damage.

Navy Pride, why are you refusing to address this extremely telling picture of just how 100% wrong you are?

Tell me, does your 12 years of med school, rotation and residency suggest that both brains are the same in functional capacity or that one is MISSING large portions of the brain necessary for unassisted life?

I don't know but stranger things have happened...In both cases thee experts said the patient was vegetive ...well they were wrong with the man and could have been wrong with the woman......since they starved her to death we will never know........

In other words, you're too dumb to do the actual research and find out that what happened was a mis-diagnosis, not a healing, so you'd rather sit there and say "Well ANYTHING could have happened!" in a vague and arcane attempt to make a point after being beaten about the head with example after example of your staggering incompetence.

Except that Schavio was tested for basic brain activity and came up nothing. This guy wasn't.

Clearly, your understanding of neurology is less then your understanding of how many people take the Seattle Monorail, but explain to me how someone can not be brain dead when they are missing entire pieces of their brain that control basic functions necessary to even breathe.

Seriously, start using Google for a change rather then first assuming whatever you wish to be true is in fact true.

Do you even understand that the pictures clearly show massive differences?

Ok, forgive me for pointing this out, but this is basic biology. And I dont mean "first semester med school" basic, I mean ****ing "junior high biology" basic.

Bits of the brain dying off is not conducive to continual functioning of the human body. This is not a complicated concept.

Pot, kettle? what a hippocrit...:)

I told my son years ago if I get into what is considered an unrecoverable state of health, to bring in the best looking nurses and have them dance naked for me. If I get an erection, good, continue treatment, if not pull the plug.
But I have to reconsider that, now that I am old the erections require a lot more than just looking at a naked woman....:(:rofl

We did know; the autopsy on Schiavo revealed her brain had turned to mush. There are different types of vegetative states. In Terri's case she was in a persistent vegetative state (PVS). PVS is progressive, as time goes on the condition of the brain deteriorates further. That's why in the very early years she may have been able to communicate a little but years in she lost all form of being able to do anything. The Cerebral Cortex which controls higher brain functions such as talking, sight, hearing, interpretation had been obliterated. It is what is called Neo-cortical death. What remained in Terri was the brain stem which controls lower brain functions such as breathing, sleeping, grunting, moans and involuntary reactions.

When the autopsy was done not only did they find an abnormally low brain weight but also that the neural pathways that would have allowed her to interpret sight were gone. Effectively leaving her blind. They also found that she had been aspirating into her lungs for quite sometime. Her body could not swallow properly anything on its own and apparently saliva was causing her problems.

She was in that condition 15 years, there was no recovering it was only going to get worse. She had osteo-perosis and multiple other complications.

If you think that missing parts of a brain has no impact upon mental function, then would you allow us to remove parts of yours?

It amuses me how far some people here will go to defend their ideological breathren.

I know I've argued about this case for years. What gets me is those who say she could talk, she was responsive she said "I want to live". That Michael killed her for money etc.
