I've had my 99 Silverado 4x4 for a short time, so I can't say yet. It does have some issues like a leaking front stub shaft seal. I believe it was a flood car, but I bought it from my father who owned is since about 2001. There are rattles and squeeks in the cab.

My last two GM's were nightmares. A 2002 and a 2007. The 2007 was in the shop 6 or 7 times within the first year and a half. I'm ecstatic I no longer own it.

I will say that one GM I owned was a good vehicle. A 1998 Chevy G3500 diesel van. It was part of the reason I bought the other ones, but the experiences with the other ones soured me on GM for good. Especially the 2007, which downright sucked.

But comparatively, from 1998 to 2002 to 2007 there was a noticeable decline in quality from my perspective.

I would potentially buy another G3500, though. It realy was a helluva workvan.

Re: Is US bullying Toyota on recall?

Absolutely the worst piece of crap vehicle I ever owned was a Toyota. Loooong before this series of problems came about, I swore I'd never own another, and I've been outstandingly pleased with that decision.

The Ford I bought to replace the Toyota that died on the LA's I-10 ran like a champ for 10 years. Never had one thing go wrong.

When I moved to the country, my much loved Ford couldn't quite handle all the hauling I do, nor take the rutted gravel roads and dangerous winter weather, so I traded it in for a nice used '99 Silverado Z71. It's been driven hard the last five years, and again, it's been an absolutely perfect vehicle.

Now that we're seeing increasingly worrisome (not to mention deadly) problems with manyToyota models, my negative feelings about Toyota - both the product and the company - have only solidified.

The story about floor mats smelled like so much crap to me when I first heard it years ago, and that stench hasn't dissipated in the slightest.

I think Honda is going to come out the big winner on this one.

I just got a 91 Accord LX for next to nothing. It runs like a champ and no rust. All I need to do is slap some paint on it and it will look like a new car.

I have never seen any American car hold up like this after 17 years.

Don't get me wrong though. I do like my Ford's. 2 Cobra's, 2 Taurus and 1 Ranger later, none of them held up as well as this Honda did.
