Actually, there is. She's a key member of the house. She MUST have security with her whereever she goes.

It's easier to provide security on a military aircraft than it is aboard a comerical jetliner.

Though I do not agree they should be flying coach, sitting betwixt a fat woman and a baby, I don't really see what security problems would arise. Are you suggesting that flying commercial is not safe? If so, then the gubermint has some splainin' to do...

I never said I had a problem with military aircraft in general. Just the gulf stream variety, complete w/ full wetbar.

That's true. Airports and airplanes are really some of the most secure places there is. First class would work just fine.

No. It isn;t.

Pelosi, like many other politicians, are a target. When traveling overseas the taxpayer would be billed for the government to purchase the entire 1st class section of plane.

Commercial planes have full bars.

The average international first class ticket quite expensive. When compared by cost, it would be cheaper for Peloisi to use a non-commercial aircraft.

There's no need for that much security on an airplane... Threats are likely not going to be perpetrated by overwhelming force in confined areas. Threats will be one guy w/ explosives encrusted onto his panties. The bigger security issue is going to and from, and boarding, the plane.

I don't much like the excesses either. However, given the current situation, I do not believe it is fair for government officials to fly commerical airlines.

Doing so places the other passengers at risk... especially if the passenger list was to be leaked to the wrong people.

I do agree with regarding the necessity of travel. Why does the speaker of the house need to travel any futher than her home state? The answer is ... I cannot think of a single good reason for it.

As far as the booze goes, she can BYOB. I do not think the taxpayers need to pay for her steady decline into alcoholism.

I mostly agree. If the president feels it is enough of a security issue then I'll concede that she shouldn't be flying commercial to her district in accordance with her duties... other than that, however, the spending needs to be kept on a much tighter leash. It will even help out their own image in the long run.

She's a a member of congress and a 3rd in line for the oval office. She is a target... PERIOD. As such, her being on a commerical jetliner places the lives of countless civilians in jeopardy.

She must travel with a secret service detail aboard a small learjet. She does not belong on a commerical flight.

Is it a legitimate use of military jets to transport the Speaker of the House and her favored Congressional coterie for routine travel? Even if you believe it is -- and, personally, I do not -- any rational taxpayer would admit that it is monumental waste of money. Military flights cost between $5,000 and $20,000 per hour to operate. The Speaker and her passengers routinely reimburse the Air Force $120 to $400 for each flight.

Since Nancy Pelosi took over as Speaker in 2006, she's rung up millions in military travel expenses to commute between San Francisco and Washington.

Worse still, she also appears to have requisitioned entire flights for the personal use of her children and grandchildren. That is, unaccompanied by any member of Congress, her kids, in-laws and grandchildren are utilizing entire military passenger jets for their routine travel needs.

Their documents show it was offical business...Its not uncommon for family members to be part time staff members. look at Cheney and his daughter. This is much ado about nothing.
