Obama State of the Union

Don't blame me for your inability to express yourself clearly and intelligently.

Do you have anything substantive to add to the subject matter? Yeah, I didn't think so.

I go to bed pretty early, so I knew I'd fall asleep during the SOTU. The part I did watch was very good, IMO. I'll watch the rest tonight.

I never expected an objective opinion from you.

Says the one who condemns Alito for silently mouthing something to himself, while not condemning Obama for bashing the SCOTUS in the first place.

I came thinking that it would be a good or at least decent speech. It wasn't. It probably was for his base, but they're going to support him regardless. Sorry for giving my opinion, though I didn't realize I had some sort of reputation as a partisan.

McDonnell's response was meh. Multiculti Brigade in the background was... interesting.

Ok everybody, camera time. I need an Asian, a Black, a GI , and a female here in these seats surrounding Mr McDonnell.

I understand if there had been more room they were going to put the Village People in the background with him.

Barack Obama has complete and utter comtempt for the American people and gave a partisan State of the Union Speech that is out of touch with the real world.

Barack Obama gave a campaign speech and used his typical BIOB, Blame it on Bush, tactics all in hopes that the American forget what he promised and how he failed to deliver on those promises with a filibuster proof Congress.

Calling Republicans obstructionists appeals to his base where he can do no wrong but ignores reality, it is his own party that gave us higher unemployment, a greater deficits, and made us less safe over the past year

The guy makes Jimmy Carter look good.

Let's see:

[*]Takes credit for TARP but blames bush for the deficit

[*]Says there's a spending freeze, but it's not actually frozen

[*]Says business is the engine for job growth, but wants to tax large businesses and let the government "create" jobs

[*]Says Republicans blocked him from doing anything but he's had a filibuster proof majority

Did no one else think it was strange when he openly stated that he wants the US to have a government led economy like Germany and China?

Did no one else think it was strange that he threw respect for separation of powers in the sewer and publicly embarrassed and intimidated the supreme court justices?

Did no one else think it was strange that he said we can't freeze spending even though we have a deficit, then told the Republicans "that's how you budget", as if spending money you don't have is basic household finance?

He says he wants to punish businesses for sending jobs overseas, he should punish government for sending jobs overseas by taxing, supporting labor unions and enforcing unneccessarily strict regulations.

Overall, worst state of the union ever. Disingenuous, disrespectful, stupid and full of excuses for not actually doing anything in an entire year with total control of government. Not to mention 0 minutes spent on terrorism. Did I miss an Al Qaeda surrender or something?

My question is about the tax cuts.

What tax cuts?

He's not talking about the one time tax CREDIT of 400 or 800 is he?

Thanks, you just reminded me of another one. He wants to lower taxes on small business investment, but he is raising the carried interest tax on the firms that actually make investments in small businesses.

Doubling Exports In The Next 5 Years

ummm.... did anyone else realize that we just stood up and applauded a pledge to devalue the dollar?

I was at least glad he made financial reform seem like an important topic. I would really like to see this done. I am also glad he has suggested more investment tax credits and a payroll tax cut for those who hire. Those are good common sense policies right now in my opinion.

Ha. I loved the spending freeze back-and-forth.

OBAMA: We're going to have a spending freeze.
applause
OBAMA: But it's going to be frozen next year, not this year. This year we're still going to spend the money.
REPUBLICANS: laughter
OBAMA: (to Republicans) That's how you budget.
DEMOCRATS: applause
OBAMA: That's how you budget.

As if spending money you don't have is basic household finance. You tell 'em Barry!

How did he not do anything? He sent more troops to Afghanistan, attempted to deal with health care (although that bombed pretty miserably thanks to Congress and the Senate), and he reached out to the Muslim world. That doesn't sound like "nothing" to me.

Is this a joke? Seriously? How did he not do anything, he reached out and attempted. Awesome.

So sending tens of thousands of more troops is nothing? What about health care? What would you have him do?

The decision was made by military commanders, and he didn't even fully execute their plan as I recall. And as I also recall the US healthcare system is absolutely no different now than it was 1 year ago. "Trying" and "doing" aren't the same thing.

Yeah, there are lots of decisions accredited to Presidents that the Presidents don't actually have a hand in.

Trying with health care is still a lot better than "nothing". I find your claims of "nothing" dubious, at best. You just mean nothing that you like.

No, it's literally nothing. The only things that were actually done were the auto bailouts and the stimulus, both of which were totally ineffective.

Maybe, I know Bush and Repubs crowed when they gave a 300 doolar one. Tax cuts???Why its basically the same rate now as when Bush the Tax Buster was in office.

Bush passed two comprehensive tax cuts, and the unemployment rate in the last recession topped out at around 6%.

You're just being partisan, at this point.

I would argue that claiming that trying really hard to pass a bill is an accomplishment is partisan.

Actually I thought the rebate was rather idiotic when Bush did it.

And yes, the tax rate is the same as when Bush was in office, because his tax cuts are still in place. Which will be itneresting to see if Obama and the congress allow them to expire, causing increased taxes on almost everyone, but yet somehow blame that on Bush as well.

In the past year we have found out what Obama says and what happens is 2 different things.

Nothing is better than his government take over
