Public's Priorities for 2010: Economy, Jobs, Terrorism

As Barack Obama begins his second year in office, the publicís priorities for the president and Congress remain much as they were one year ago. Strengthening the nationís economy andimproving the job situation continue to top the list. And, in the wake of the failed Christmas Day terrorist attack on a Detroit-bound airliner, defending the country from future terrorist attacks also remains a top priority.

At the same time, the public has shifted the emphasis it assigns to two major policy issues: dealing with the nationís energy problem and reducing the budget deficit. About half (49%) say that dealing with the nationís energy problem should be a top priority, down from 60% a year ago. At the same time, there has been a modest rise in the percentage saying that reducing the budget deficit should be a top priority, from 53% to 60%.
improving the job situation continue to top the list. And, in the wake of the failed Christmas Day terrorist attack on a Detroit-bound airliner, defending the country from future terrorist attacks also remains a top priority.

And at the bottom? Globull warming.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

Just how many issues does one submit as a top issue? Most likely a majority of the people see it (Global Warming) as an issue still, just not one of the most pressing ones.

Well I can speak for myself, but I think that'srobably a pretty accurate view of things. I'd lump the economy and jobs into one group though since they usually go hand in hand.

Notice Social Security is right behind terrorism? The elderly crowd is almost as scared of losing their SSA checks as they are of terrorists. Nice.

I also have some concerns about "moral decline". I wonder how that was defined on the poll? If at all? Maybe I should get off my lazy ass and read the link. But Family Guy is on....

I know I see it (Global Warming) as an issue.....

I'd like to see an investigation into the fraud that has been perpetrated on the world, and the ones involved jailed, but that isn't my top issue.

The order of priorities in my view would be very different. My top 5 would be..

    Deficit Reduction
    Lobbyists
    Immigration
    Economy
    Jobs

And the bottom 5 would be...

    Health Insurance
    Moral Decline
    Helping the poor
    Finance Regulation
    Global Warming

Our top 5 issues should be:

    1. Health care
    2. Economy/jobs
    3. Energy
    4. Deficit reduction
    5. Ending the war on drugs
    Are you coming to bed?
    I can't. This is important.
