Very likely they could pass a reform of Health Care, but whether it would continue to be the same mangled Bill the Democrats have been proposing is extremely doubtful.

Dem lawmaker: Congress could pass health reform if men were 'sent home'

By Jordan Fabian - 01/24/10 12:28 PM ET

A female Democratic lawmaker in footage released Sunday said Congress could pass healthcare if female lawmakers "sent the men home."

Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.) said that both Republican and Democratic women members of Congress understand how to care for relatives and thus want the healthcare system to change.

"We go to the ladies room and the Republican women and the Democratic women and we just roll our eyes," she said. "And the Republican women said when we were fighting over the healthcare bill, if we sent the men home..." at which point she was interrupted by loud applause.
"You know why? I'm not trying to diss the men but I'm telling you it's the truth that every single woman there has been responsible for taking care of a [relatives] and so we think we can find a common ground there," she said.
The New Hampshire lawmaker's comments come as Democratic leaders are debating alternative ways to pass the healthcare overhaul. Republican Scott Brown's victory in the Massachusetts Senate primary has stalled the debate.
Imagine if a male lawmaker has said this. He would be forced to resign.
"He who does not think himself worth saving from poverty and ignorance by his own efforts, will hardly be thought worth the efforts of anybody else." -- Frederick Douglass, Self-Made Men (1872)
"Fly-over" country voted, and The Donald is now POTUS.

Maybe it wasn't the most PC thing to say...but the truth is she's probably right. Women in general are much more consensus-driven whereas men in general are much more conflict-driven. Now obviously there are exceptions to that...but in general I think it's true.

That is one of the single most sexist things in Congress I have heard in... well, in a few days, since Specter told Bachmann to act like a lady.

That's not exactly what she said. Look closely:

She's basically saying that, well... a wise woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not come to a better decision than a man.

Meh, I don't necessarily disagree with that. All else being equal, I'd rather the male/female ratio in Congress was reversed (with the same party affiliations).

Why? So that Republicans would be more moderate, and the Congress thus overall would be further left?

Or if it's not an ideology thing, is it a competence/corruption thing? I can think of at least 5 female politicians off the top of my head that would contradict that.

I said with the party affiliations staying the same. What makes you think female Republicans would be more moderate?

Yeah but they're the exceptions. Like I said, in general I think women are more consensus-focused than men. There are exceptions like Nancy Pelosi and Michelle Bachmann. But in general it's true. (And even in the case of Pelosi, her partisan attitude is probably largely a function of the fact that she's in charge of a male-dominated group.)

If that really happened, then I contend that congress would be slightly more partisan, and have a considerably more annoying whine.

And maybe they could form a House Committee on Making Sammiches.
