Wall mart to cut 11,000 Jobs

Wal-Mart cuts about 11,200 Sam's Club staffers - Yahoo! News

I thought walmart made, billions upon billions of dollars annually last year. Why are they cutting these jobs then? I guess all that money went to Scott lee CEO who made $29.7 million in his earnings.

To keep the Bottom-Line Gods happy they have to sacrifice employment.

Wal-Mart has started to use a lot more automation (e.g. self-checkouts, RFID chips), so they no longer need as many employees per store as they once did.
    Are you coming to bed?

Are they can, just cut the CEO's wages which is 1,551 times more than the annual income of an average walmart employ. Wal-Mart CEO paid $29.7 million - Los Angeles Times

It's not a cost cutting move:

"...About 10,000 demonstration employees, most part-time, will lose their jobs in the next 30 days after marketing company Shopper Events LLC takes over sampling, Sam’s Club Chief Executive Officer Brian Cornell said today in an interview. The company also is cutting about 1,200 membership recruiting jobs, or about two in each of the club’s U.S. stores.

Hiring a third party is part of an effort to improve demonstrations and lure customers from rival clubs, Cornell, 50, said. Sam’s, which trails Costco Wholesale Corp. in sales, will use savings from labor costs to improve the sampling of food, beverages, health items and electronics, according to the CEO.

“This was not a cost-cutting move,” he said. “The steps we are taking are about differentiation and jumping ahead.”

So why don't they just keep the jobs? Because it would be "unnecessary" costs?
Apparently you can only train a Human for one purpose at the many, many fine Walmart and Sams Club locations.

Why can't they keep the jobs, if this was not a cut job? Trust me, this is a cut job, and nothing more than that.

A lot of stores have that, and still needs workers to stack things ectt.

I think this is right. It shifts the burden to nobody since most people that work for these marketing companies like Mosiac and Champions are strictly limited to part time.

....so, don't work for a sam's club store. If you read the article you would understand this is a move to improve their ability to sell merchandise. That's what this company is suppose to do, sell merchandise.

Yes, when I heard this that was my first thought. Since, it would put a dent in their profits.
