Jan. 6, 2010 -- Cell phone exposure may be helpful in the fight against Alzheimer's disease, a new study shows.

The study, involving mice, provides evidence that long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves associated with cell phone use may protect against, and even reverse, Alzheimer's disease.

The study is published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

I put this in the blogs section, because it isn't health care, per se.

I find this fascinating, along with the fact that we've all been getting dire warnings about the health risks of cell phones.

Sadly, I live in a place without cell service and . . . what was I saying?

How did they get the mice to hold the cell phones?

IF it has any positives effects, my guess that it results from having consistent communication with others rather than becoming increasingly isolated.

lol @ 'what was I saying'...

Remember way back when cell phones came out? They weighed about five pounds and you were tethered to a jack or actual antennae in your vehicle. Only doctors, bail bondsmen and drug dealers had them.

Point is - they've been going on and on about how cell phone use can cause brain tumors, cancer, hair loss, etc... ever since then.

Now they're saying their use could actually benefit us health wise? It's amazing that with the passage of time and research, what'll crop up.

Thanks for posting this. :)

My dad had one back in the mid 90s or so. He is a computer maintenance guy who was always out and about so the company thought he needed to have one. It was one of those satchel phones, even before the brick phone came out. I remember it being a really big deal when he called on the cell because it was expensive, as they were billing for every minute all day long. Of course it was always from the car, because coverage and reception were both crappy, and the only way to remedy this was hooking it into the pigtail antenna. He used a black Plymouth Laser as his work vehicle (piece of crap car), so with the cell phone my brother and I thought he was just like Michael Knight in Knight Rider.

Sorry, brought back some memories with that one. I wonder if he still has that phone ...

Yeah but how would that help mice?

They are the ones that just sit there grinning, because they have no clue where they are or what's going on.;)
I figured they were the ones wearing adult diapers.

Maybe they collected all the mice in Florida or something ...

Perhaps a bit off topic, but maybe related peripherally, I read a study about 10 or so years ago that indicated some depressed patients benefit from MRI's.

Perhaps it somehow electrically stimulates the brain the way it is lacking when clinically depressed?

I'm not a medical doctor, but I would bet anything the magnetic fields put off by cell phones and MRI's manipulate what the Chinese call qi.

Maybe so. I thought it was an interesting observation, and it was made quite by accident when it was noted that depressed patients had an improvement in symptoms after having an MRI for unrelated medical problems. There's probably alot more to magnetism than the reputed charm known as "animal magnetism".

In answer to the question, I knew it a minute ago. No wait yes, I have taken Alka-Seltzer when I was on the cell phone.

MRI? No not me but I knew a guy who was MR once but not I. I don't think.
