The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations

Just saw this linked on Drudge.

Breitbart.tv The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiations

One of the reasons Obama was elected is because the American people were tired of a president that just did things and wouldn't communicate with us, or couldn't communicate with us, the reasoning behind it. Remember "The Decider"? Well, the people have spoken. They chose a more effective communicator who clearly and specifically promised all of us that he would keep us informed and also clearly and specifically detailed how he would go about it.

Man up B-rock. Keep your word. This isn't some minor law change about dog leashes in parks. This is 1/6 of the US economy. Lies on the campaign trail are not an uncommon occurrence, but that is no reason to accept it, especially on something this serious.

If I had seen this thread I wouldn't have posted mine. Damn. I expected if it was already posted it would be in the breaking news blog section. I looked there but I should have just searched the whole forum. Now there is three. Sorry about that. :3oops:

Drudge headline say WH will allow one hour of healthcare coverage. Our dictator has spoken, and the subordinate Congress (i.e., Pelosi, Reid) must obey.

The funny thing about it is...YOU KNOW you are the wrong side when CSPAN is calling out Obama. Either CSPAN is part of the grand right-wing conspiracy that lies all the time, or Obama(AND Pelosi Co. since she had to insert her nose in this) is a liar. The first will make any liberal look absurdly ridiculous and undermine what they have been saying about any type of news that they disagree with, the second is a pill that is simply just too big to swallow.

Since breaking this promise can only be bad for Obama, I imagine the other parties must have been exerting some kind of influence to keep things quiet; their organizations have their own public relations concerns, so they insisted Obama take the hit so that they don't look bad to certain of their constituents.

Since some broken promises are anticipated in every political candidate, I don't see what makes this case so remarkable.

Look again, DW. CSPAN isn't calling Obama out. That would be Breitbart TV, and Politifact.

And don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have seen the negotiations on this bill on TV someplace, and while one of the CSPAN networks would probably have been the best place for it, it's possible that Obama wasn't so much lying, as not knowing that he would be unable to get CSPAN to do his bidding.

CSPAN, for those who don't know, is government television, that is not run by any government - local, state, or federal. It's a privately owned network, paid for and operated by a conglomerate of all the national, and a good number of the regional cable companies across the country. All costs and operating expenses come out of customer subscription fees for those cable/satellite companies that carry the CSPAN networks.

Now, maybe CSPAN thought that the healthcare bill negotiations were going to be even more boring than what they usually have on. Maybe they didn't have the resources to cover the senate, congress, and a separate feed soley for the negotiations. Maybe Obama never even asked. At this point, I don't think that anyone can definitively say , however, that Obama lied about this.

I'm not saying he didn't lie, and I'm not saying he did. I'm just saying that we don't know for a fact one way or the other at this point. Intentional or not, however, it is still a promise broken, and one that would have been better kept, in my opinion. At least the public would have had the chance to see what actually transpired in those negotiations, and not gotten everything third hand, from spokespeople, lobbyists, political analysts and everyone but the people at the negotiating table.

Perhaps if it had been televised, we wouldn't have had to wade through all of the crap from both sides over the last six months.

I think that your last statement is interesting in rwo different ways.

First, promises about change was the core of the Obama campaign. So this can be put on a similar plane as Bush #1 saying no new taxes.

This leads to the second point. It seems that the mass of Obamaites will forgive any transgression. He knows it and that is why for example health care is a travesty. Pass anything and his followers will bow down to it. On the other hand when Bush changed on his pledge, the press killed him, kept reminding his followers of the change and he was booted out of office.

I see this has all been quietly swept under the rug.

 What does Peter Orszag have to do with anything?

You watched the wrong clip, which is why I put the title on it:

Stealth Care Reform

Re: The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiati

Wasn't that just typical leftist deception, hiding the title in plain sight? :rofl

That assumes the alternative is worse- which it's not. Public healthcare debates would be disastrous for Democrats.

Hey man....Your the one that linked it to the Orzag video without explaining where to look.

Re: The C-SPAN Lie? See Eight Clips of Obama Promising Televised Healthcare Negotiati

This is a legitimate criticism. Obama promised more transparency.

After 8 years of GWB non-responsibility and unaccountability, I hoped for more.

I have been sadly disappointed by Obama in this area.
