Conn. Sen. Dodd expected to announce retirement

Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.
Hmmm. I wonder why that is. Maybe because he is, as Biden noted, "getting the living hell beat out of him."

Good riddance to the piece of garbage. He was front and center in all this economic BS. And now helped ram the health care bill down our throats despite the majority's opposition to it.

If he stuck around, he'd probably follow in the footsteps of his father. Best to step down before the hounds catch up to him.

I'm glad the bastard is leaving.

Good riddance. He was boob of a senator in my former state.

And so we change about the chairs on the Titanic. Why is this news?

Because a prominent and influential 5-term Senator is withdrawing from what had been projected as a very close Senate campaign.

That's basically the definition of news.

Senator Dodd was terrific Senator from my home state. He has done more for the State of Connecticut then any politician ever has. The fact that he is getting the tar beaten out of him, just shows the vitriol that this country holds for the people in Washington who try to get things done.

Senator Dodd helped to build the Connecticut public school system to one of the best in the country (if not the best). He worked hard in making sure that firefighters and police officers are paid what these brave men and women are worth. He was a tireless fighter for those who have no voice, the children, and worked with Senator Kennedy and Senator Hatch to pass health care legislation aimed at making sure that children get the health services they need.

Senator Dodd is not a piece of garbage as someone put it. Sure he can take is blame in the mess we are in right now, but I ask you to not find fault in any of our elected officials we are not responsible. Let us not forget that President Bush presided over the beginning of this mess.

Dodd was part of the biggest problem, entrenched big government liberal politics.

What do you mean by "entrenched, big government liberal politcs"? Sure, Senator has liberal leanings, but he has also cast votes to cut taxes for the middle class and the poor. He has voted to raise taxes on the highest 1% or the uber wealthy.

Okay, he did some good but you cant have it both ways and say, "He served under Bush". That doesn't slice the cake. He made his own decision while he served all these terms, right?

I didn't mean to imply that he should not shoulder any blame due to the crisis we are in now. What I meant, was that we are all responsible for the crisis. Both parties deserve blame for putting us in such a bad position. Banks deserve blame for giving out loans to people who could not pay them. The people themselves deserve blame for buying houses they could not afford. You can not put the fiscal crisis we are in now in the hands of one party, or one person, you need to put it on the shoulders of both parties. I am a democrat, but I realize my party is also to blame for setting us up to fail, and Senator Dodd deserves his share of criticism for it, because of his leadership position in the party.

My point was that, regardless, he has done so much more good for the state of Connecticut, than bad. He deserves the recognition for it.

Uber wealthy, sounds like something a Nazi would say.

I don't understand the reference to Nazi, nor do I appreciate it. So please explain to me what you mean when you say that uber wealthy is something a Nazi would say. I have been called many things some deserved, some not, but to compare me to a regime that advocated genocide is not something I deserve, that is way over the line. So please explain to me what you mean when you call me a Nazi.
