Nullification for Texas? Will it work?

I am unsure of how the departure of Texas would actually affect the rest of the US economically, and no one here has convinced me that they know either.

It is not as if their departure would lead to an economic wall between us and them.

Economics aside... Can they go ahead and take the rest of the South with them, except perhaps the Eastern Seaboard? And maybe much of the midwest, including my state, please. Just let me get the hell out before the separation is complete.

I wonder if we might all be happier if there was a separation. Seriously. All the Limbaugh, Coulter, Beck folks are wacked out on some rather mild reforms and Keynesian efforts to prop up the economy during a recession, along with differences about culture.

I know I would be immensely happier not having to battle with them all the time, and they would be happier not having to battle with us all the time. We could keep the economic ties as strong as they are now... Except we would have the Federal Reserve and they would have something else, maybe some entity that can institute a Gold Standard or something else equally idiotic. We would just be separate culturally and politically. We'd have to divide the debt somehow, probably on population.

I do think there would be profound economic consequences in the long term because one of us would be wrong about how to run an economic system, and when either of us suffers, the other would too.

Nevertheless, I think I would be more pleased with this arrangement than displeased.

As I understand it, the ONLY thing Texas is obligated to, in regard to federal obligation, is to uphold the constitution. I don't know what all that entails, technically.

That's an interesting point. Think about it.

Obama and his henchmen have thrown away the Constitution. So why is Texas subject to an "obsolete document?" We have the wherewithal to exist as a sovereign nation. If a vote were held today in Texas I believe secession would be overwhelmingly voted in. Most of us have had it up to here with the garbage in Washington with its vote buying, vote stealing and Chicago corruption brought in by Obama who sold a bill of goods much like Hitler sold Germany before he took it into utter destruction. I don't want any part of that but as I see it that's exactly where we are headed.

Hello, their are Liberals here in Texas... We aren't going to succeed.

Obama and his henchmen have thrown away the Constitution

Last time I check, Bush Jr was the one that threw our constitution out the window. Were the hell have you been the last eight freaking years?

Could you just move out and let them go? Am I asking for the stars here? I don't think so.

I don't see a "right to leave" provision in your link. As I recall, Texas tried seceding from the Union once before. We know how that one turned out.

Well as it was once said by another philosopher "How many divisions does the Pope have?" I speak of the rest of the states who would have to fight Texans to keep us in. Frankly, we don't need the rest although I suspect most of the middle of the nation would gladly join us as a new free nation that believes in the American dream. Let California, New York, New Jersey, and yes, Illinois run things their way. More power to them. If we could just get rid of California we would be infinitely better off. That cesspool of a state will drag the entire country into the toilet with it. It is bankrupt and ungovernable. Let it go back to Mexico.

Your gentlemanly bearing does you credit, sir.

Is that an actual fact? It was my understanding that the Republic of Texas was let in with some specific understandings such as it could split into five separate states and had the right to leave if the U.S. went into the toilet although I could be wrong about the latter. I guess I was wrong.

Resolution Annexing Texas to the US

That was before the Civil War, in which they joined the Confederacy. I think. So they can't use that document anymore. I dunno though.

Hello, their are Liberals here in Texas... We aren't going to succeed.

Shhhhhh! They don't seem to notice. Get them from the inside! Today it is a gay mayor, tomorrow it will be socialized health care for all Texans! Muahahahahaha!

Last time I check,

It was totally crazy the last time I present tense a verb.

Bush Jr was the one that threw our constitution out the window. Were the hell have you been the last eight freaking years?

Stop blaming Bush Jr., Capitalize our Constitution (Proper noun) or you're just as disrespectful, and has it ever occurred to you that Congress and both Parties are to shoulder at a share of the Blame?

Epic Dude, you have taken the label of Grammar/Spelling Nazi to heights unknown to me before. And I love ya for it. It TOTALLY cracks me up. :rofl

So as soon as we get a Democrat as President, the South is allowed to argue secession?

Can the East Coast and West Coast do that when we get a Republican in as President next time?

And why not?? Liberals and conservatives can never reconcile. There are two vastly different worlds there between the REAL Americans and the pointyheaded latte-sipping Left leaning posers!

Don't get me wrong. I loved The Beach Boys, Van Halen and a lot of that 80's hair stuff that came outta California. But after a lengthy visit there, I would have to agree with Boogie Dawg.

I think of that scene in Star Wars where the sand trap/funnel, with the sharp teeth, was devouring everything that fell into it's trap. Then I think of Los Angeles. Man, that place, if god gave America an enema, that's where he would stick it.

I hear Northern California is way cool. But I wouldn't miss California if it decided to go Mexicano.

Cabo Wabo!

John Stacy been working on Nullification for the State of Texas. Some say it will work others say it won't work. You do your own research to decide but here what John has to say.

A call for all Texans to have our Texas State Legislatures, Lt. Governor, & Perry to call a special session to bring about NULLIFICATION of every UNCONSTITUTIONAL Law, Resoultion, Ammendment, and whatever other lies there are on record.

It is up to the Supreme Court to rule on the constitutionality of laws and amendments.

There is a fourth party in the Checks and Balances equation: The States

Yeah, because when the federal government doesn't do what I want (even when it's democratically elected) I should have the right to just ignore them anyways.

Article 4:

Each State shall be its own Sovereign Republic.

Yeah, well, you should have treated African-Americans better if you wanted to keep your sovereignty. Since you didn't, the citizens are allowed to use the federal government to be a check against corrupt state governments to provide freedoms and opportunities for ALL Americans.

I would say the same thing about New York City. Let New Jersey take it and LEAVE UPSTATE ALONE!

Actually no it isn't. Article X of the Bill Of Rights make this abundantly clear.

Yeah, because when the federal government doesn't do what I want (even when it's democratically elected) I should have the right to just ignore them anyways.
As it should be. the Federal Government was never meant to be a strong centralized power.

Oh brother, playing the race card again! Typical!
