LA Times: Obama stimulus spending: $246,436 per new job

Ask.

The government does this all the time, btw. You cite government stats.

You're going to ask every single person in the US? And you expect it to be reliable?

Yeah, I guess it was the OP.

Like I said, efficiency is good.

Then using a ton of people to dig a canal to "fix" a recession wouldn't be a good use of resources even though it would get people to spend money and would decrease unemployment.

So are you saying now that savings is 17 times the amount required by law?

On the contrary, are you saying that banks cannot have more than the required reserves? Banks do have the ability to make serious profit, and have considerable amounts of assets. Fed buys bonds... reserves dry up, end of story.

Now I have to explain government statistics research methods to you?

Do you consider all government stats to be unreliable? If so, don't ever quote them again.

You know something about it?

You know something about it?

Not much, but a little. The point is that everyone uses government stats all the time, including you. Yet suddenly someone is claiming the stats aren't reliable when they don't like them.

For this one yes, I'd really like to here how the government gets those stats.

Not at all and I understand why they are.

Banks do have the ability to make serious profit, and have considerable amounts of assets. Fed buys bonds... reserves dry up, end of story.

But who is buying treasury bonds these days?

recovery.gov has alot of info about it.

Then it should be easy for you to explain to us how they got those stats of "jobs saved."

I never claimed to know exactly how they do it. I know it's not exactly difficult, or much different from the way they collect any other stats. But I don't have the details and never claimed to. You can look those up on recovery.gov.

It's not difficult, but you don't know how they do it. In other words, you have no idea how they do it.

I looked up "how to calculate saved jobs" and this was the first link I found. It might be pretty interesting for you to look at.

No, I have a basic idea. They collect the data from the agencies that handle the stimulus money and the recipients themselves. In other words, just how you'd expect, and just how they do it with many other data sources, including ones you've probably never questioned.

You realize that Yahoo Answers is where anyone, no matter what they know or don't know, can answer questions right? In other words, it's worthless.

I know how they can come up with jobs created. That's pretty easy and I don't question that. I want you to tell me how they come up with jobs saved.

Uh oh, I think I spy a cop-out. Do you have anything better?

I explained that, at least my limited understanding. If someone is about to be laid off, but they aren't when a government contract comes along from the stimulus, that's a job saved. But I'm no expert and never claimed to be.

Uh oh, I think I spy a cop-out. Do you have anything better?

Seriously, dude, I'm not here to defend my knowledge of this. I never copped in in the first place. I don't know any more than what I've said already. Sorry I can't help you any further.

But Yahoo Answers is still a worthless source. Anyone can post there. You could and so could I.

Lol, you came here to debate, but now you don't want to when you can't offer any argument yourself.

I don't know everything, dude. Never said I did.

Quick, explain the details of quantum mechanics! You came here to debate.

I'm just asking you to explain what you are defending. I'm not defending quantum mechanics, it's completely irrelevant to what we are discussing.

I have explained it to the extent of my knowledge of it. I'm not interested in defending it any more. If you have your own knowledge to share, feel free. Otherwise, we just don't know much about it, do we?

Could it be because I've cast a ton of doubt into your belief on "saved" jobs? Don't get me wrong, jobs have been saved, but there is no way to calculate it accurately.

Then why shirk away when I actually try to get you to explain how easy it is to record saved jobs?

I am too lazy to go look up the details. I make no claims about knowing them. You can go look them up if you want.

I showed you what I found and you made at half-hearted attempt at responding to it because you said that Yahoo answers is unreliable. In most cases it's going to be right, so where is your evidence to the contrary?

Let's get something straight - Yahoo answers is just not a source, period. Anyone can post there, just like this forum.

This is a side issue. I don't want to get dragged into it. I don't have time. You may conclude whatever you wish.
