How low will he go? Obama gives Japan's Emperor Akihito a wow bow

America was founded upon a Constitutional Republic that sought to get away from the divine rule of monarchies. It is a fundamental component of the Age of Enlightenment and Classical Liberalism.

America was also founded upon that fact that US citizens can become the President without having to take a DNA test to prove your royal hereditary. I wish more President respected this fact and held their head high when they meet with foreign dignitaries who are dictators or represent hereditary monarchs.

When you bow to hereditary monarchs and dictators, you are forgetting some of the fundamentals principles that this country was founded upon and placing politics before principles.

As for Japan, I can tolerate a bow (doesn't mean I like it) and I am not going to dig up the past with them since I view them as an ally nowadays. As for bowing to Abdullah, I think it is a disgrace, especially given his civil rights record, but I will take a bow over holding hands and kissing him.

So, before Republicans go pointing figures at Obama bowing to foreign dignitaries, there are three fingers pointing back at you.

WW2 was over 60 years ago, we signed an armistice and have had peace for a long time. Japan is an ally. Why do we need to revisit the past over and over again? And what does it really have to do with the non-issue of Obama's bow? So, he got carried away and bowed low, so what? Maybe he was nervous. Maybe he was trying to compensate for his height out of consideration for his host?

I can't believe the press or anyone thought this was a story.

the only people who believe this is a story are obama-haters.

A symbol of respect?

You do realize in Japan you bow to show respect, not complacency. Stop worrying about symbols, and worry about what the Office is actually doing.

No more wool cloth for your eyes, sir.

Too bad he doesn't have any respect for our military, our flag, or our country.

BTW.... this was taken at Ft. Hood, the crotch salute returns for the 14 killed there.

If only Modern 'Liberals' would return to Classical Liberalism... :'(

The only thing that's embarrassing about this non-issue is the retarded over-the-top response from people like you.

It's such a non-issue, that you are bothering to reply to it and apologize for the appeaser in chief.

The same can be said about modern day 'Republicans'. Traditional conservatives of fiscal responsibility, humble foreign policy, respect for the 1st, 4th, and 10th Amendment, opposition to a large, federal government who do not want to legislate their socially conservative views on a federal level are a rare breed (at least in Washington).

I wish modern day Liberals would read The Law by Bastiat as I wish modern day Republican would read The Conscience of a Conservative by Goldwater.

I think both parties could use a good dose of history.

You're thinking like an American leftist. When Obama bowed so low and the emporer didn't, Obama was displaying weakness and submission and the emporer was showing Obama accepted the emporer's dominance.

Why is it that a person with a reasonable, rational point of view on any issue has to be a leftist if they disagree with the other person's point of view? Admittedly, I injected politics into the matter, but it's not like this issue wasn't already turned into a political free-for-all long before I commented. All I stated was fact on both sides:

1. Republicans are making way too big a deal over this; and,

2. What's wrong with attempting to follow another country's customary greeting as a visiting dignitary? Wouldn't we except the same for foreign dignitaries who visit us?

Way too much is being made of this...out of nothing. And you can bet the moment Pres. Obama doesn't render a customary greeting, i.e., bow, to a dignitary while visiting abroad he'll take heat for it. You can bet the opposition will jump all of his oversight only then he'll be labelled as not having showed the proper respect.

Again, the man can't win for losing.

You are lying about the "crotch salute", another cowardly insult to both those killed and those who honored them. Each of these small lies seals the fate of your entire idealogy, and disgusts the increasing majority who see through your desparate partisanship. Shame on you.

I see two salutes, and a hand over a heart. What did Obama think was going on?

He's just plain rude sometimes.

What part is a lie?.... the return part, or the crotch salute it's self?

Hmmmmmmm.... seems neither part is a lie, doesn't it?… or don’t you believe your own eyes.

As a kid, I hated the Pledge of Allegiance. I thought it was an empty gesture and a false disguise at patriotism. The very same can be said about respecting other trite customs.

If Obama is going to recognize trite Japanese customs of bowing, then he could recognize trite American customs of holding his hand over his heart for the pledge. Republicans make an excellent point here about our POTUS which Democrats should acknowledge.

At the same time, their appeal to the Pledge is simply false and appealing to authority, like many of them do with Fox News.

I love how so-called Republicans bring the Pledge into an argument. Blind patriotism for one's country is as destructive as sipping kool-aid with Jim Jones.

The ironic part is that Republicans praise free markets and despise socialism, yet the pledge was written by a socialist. Republicans also argue that liberals propagate our schools, yet failed to recognize history of the pledge.

You post pictures without explanation, then write your own caption about how the president refuses to salute. I don't know what was really happening, but this president is very conscientous of the appropriate response to a salute. Perhaps they were saluting him? And what's going on in this new picture, could it be the Kenyan refuses to salute the flag?MM, think we would probably been made aware of that by the ever-vigilant folks at Fox. Or maybe he was just first to drop his hand, and a photographer managed to catch the moment. Or maybe it's photoshopped. In any case, I have learned not to " believe my own eyes" when people are trying their best to create lies. Unless you can back up your BS, don't bother to bring it.

Yes, of course.... we can all see for ourselves just how conscientious Barry is...

Not at all like those other non-conscientious people standing around him.

I guess your reading comprehension is sub-par, pal, because I wasn't "apologizing" for our president; I was slamming you and your pathetic hater friends for being the partisan hacks that you are.

:doh

Now now, no need for personal attacks. I don't hate Barry, I think he's just the worst President we could ever have been saddled with. And I'll point out what I feel are examples of this when they occur.

Bowing to an Emperor matters to people, maybe not to those that ignore history...

It only matters to people who hate Obama to begin with(and yes, you do hate him). I think you will find that the vast majority of people think this is a stupid issue, brought about by stupid people.

Tell that to the men who are still alive tha survived the Bataan Death March. They live with those memories everyday.

And do you think they would just forget Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

We both have skeletons in our closet.

If they hadn't attacked us, Hiroshima and Nagasaki would never have gotten bombed. They brought that upon themselves. Personally, I'm glad didn't have to land a million American troops on mainland Japan to fight a war that would have lasted another 10 years.

The only ones defending Obama on this would never dream of criticizing him for anything, and will defend every action no matter how despicable.

See, I can be a partisan hack too.
