    Republican backs against the wall?

Is the Republican Party against the ropes? Or is it poised for a comeback next year? This reporter on the Examiner has one answer...

Scozzafava withdraws, what can this mean?

Want to hear different opinions about the Party and what public backing may be.

Eh, its a toss up in my mind. Neither party is dying since their big money backers believe in the throwing away 3rd party vote theory. What I would hope to see if that more third party challenges come up this next election cycles.

Re: Republican backs against the wall?

As a former Republican, I don't want to see it's current incarnation gain strength how the Democrats recently gained strength. The D's have gained a lot of seats in recent elections because they didn't have an 'R' next to their name. Now that people are starting to see that the D's are worse than the 'R's are, going back to the 'R's won't solve anything.

What we need are strong fiscal conservatives, such as Doug Hoffman running for office - people not tied to a political party and the special interests which come with a political party. I've said for years that special interests are the most dangerous players in the political spectrum. With the Republicans, it's the religious right, with the Democrats, it's unions. Neither is good for the country as a whole and when a party puts the special interests ahead of the citizens of this great country, bad things are bound to happen.

If the Republicans are going to come back into power, I want them to clean up their act. I want them to focus on fiscal conservatism, not social conservatism. Bob and Steve getting married isn't a national crisis. Government spending money we will never have is a national crisis. Gays serving openly in the military isn't a national crisis. Government taking over the automotive, banking, housing and medical industries is a national crisis. They need to focus on being fiscally conservative again, and in a big way. If they don't, I see a slew of conservatives like Hoffman running as independents because they are tired of the big party games, special interests and other bull**** that comes with them.

IMHO, I'd rather see the death of the Republican party - as it is now.
Welfare (Food Stamps, WIC, etc...) are not entitlements. They are taxpayer funded handouts and shouldn't be called entitlements at all. Social Security and Veteran's benefits are 'Entitlements' because the people receiving them are entitled to them. They were earned and paid for by the recipients.

Heya, welcome to DP! Nice to meetcha

Yes, I think the great purge in the Republican party is putting the party on the ropes. Could be short-term gains, long-term implosion.
