Obama suggests Fox News is like 'talk radio'

Obama suggests Fox News is like 'talk radio' - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

By Eric Zimmermann - 10/22/09 10:08 AM ET

Fox News is "operating basically as talk radio," President Obama suggested in an interview airing today.

After weeks of public feuding between the cable news channel and the president's top aides, Obama seemed to agree with statements by his advisers that Fox is not a real "news station."

"I think what our advisers have simply said is that we are going to take media as it comes," Obama told NBC's Savannah Guthrie. "And if media is operating basically as a talk radio format then that's one thing, and if it's operating as a news outlet that's another but it's not something I'm losing sleep over."

White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said this weekend that Fox is "not really a news station." That echoies similar comments made by White House Communications Director Anita Dunn and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Obama has been measured and found to be lacking in the one thing most important to long term success in politics. That being credibility. Obama is on the ropes after repeated amateurish acts and decisions and is liashing out like a child caught lying and who is left with nothing better to say say than: "Well oh yea!"
Obama has wasted more money on more rediculous things than any on in American history and Fox News is the TV network calling him on his lies and the Communists and Radicals he's put in positions of authority even though his Czars have now power under the Constitution.
He has used the Alinskey rules for radicals his whole life and Fox is not falling for his BS and it galls him no end. As I said he's like a child and dangerous because he's usin our tax money to attack people who speak the truth about him.
He will go down in History as the person who tried to destroy America from with in and Pelosi and Reid will join in that shame.

In general do we have a "real" news organization at all? Almost all are some corporate captured propaganda machine for one side or the other. Obama getting bogged down in a "war" against Fox News is dumb. He should have just said that they are free to say and believe as they like, and been done with it. Instead, it gets drawn out into an exercise in stupidity and makes him look even worse. Who cares if there is dissent, dissent is good and necessary on the whole.

i could almost agree. i do think that cnn is more centrist than the other cable outlets, but i don't watch much of any of them.

fox doesn't dissent so much as dissemble. and obama isn't in a war, i'm glad he's not ignoring fox. he's handling 6this well, imo. not too much, but enough.

There is a large perception problem though in that you have the head of the federal government basically going after a media outlet. The press is supposed to be free in this country and not subject to the whims and ideals of any administration. Fox isn't fair or balanced by any means, they are a right-wing news organization. But whatever, it's America and they're free to do as they like. I think the problem here comes in when Obama and his administration come after a media outlet like this. He is in a "war" of sorts. And it's just more endless bickering. He's the goddamned President of the United States, he needs to get over it. He shouldn't have gotten bogged down in this, he has too much work that needs to be done without engaging in a side pissing match with a news outlet.

he was asked a question, right? he answered it. he also said he didn't lose sleep over it, right?

fox would love for it to be a war, but obama won't take it that far.

I respect Obama for having the balls to finally stand up to Fox.

It's a distraction from the failures of his domestic policies and the situation in Afghanistan. I think it will blow up in his face, in the end, but this is all by design.

It's not, nor should it be the job of the president to, "stand up", to a media orginization. As Ikari pointed out, this is America, we have a free press. Agree with them, or not, FNC has every right to operate how they please.
