Obama suggests Fox News is like 'talk radio'

I do not think they are attempting to control the media. I think they are attempting to control their image. Fox news is still free to do what ever they want to do.

Control is control. By banning a fox correspondent from the pay czar interview they are sending a loud and clear message......to the other networks "do as we say or we will punish you too." Not so subtle, not something the president of the united states should be doing.

This is one area I think the President should just leave alone. While it's not the first time he's referred to Fox News (indirectly) as "talk radio on TV", fighting with them does him no good. Fox News will conduct their affairs as they see fit. Ostracizing them won't change much. You might be able to scare FoxNews into softening their tone alittle just so they'll be brought into this political story or that one as feed directly from the White House, but such a strategy is more likely to make Fox News push harder.

Nothing good can truly come of this.

Actually Murdoch leans so far right he is willing to lose money to promote a right wing agenda. Case in point the New York Post where News Corp loses 73 million a year. Also News Corp is about 2 billion in the hole.

Murdoch, though a libertarian, goes where the market could be. Also remember that this is a bad time for news media as a whole.

White House Press Pool Stands Up For Fox News

Unfortunately the white house pay czar press conference went ahead after a near revolt of the media so your goal of halting disinformation failed miserably.

A good point was made; obama is demonizing fox news just like he was demonizing the townhall protestors. I just have to wonder who's next on obama's enemies list.

Humana, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, etc.

Anyone who criticizes him loudly enough to be heard. There are no exceptions.

This was all evident through the campaign, where he and his allies tried, through intimidation and even legal means, to silence his critics. Ask Stanley Kurtz.

The 'Bama should not have stepped in that pile of dog whump but he is correc t that Fox Newz is like talk radio. Let us get real Fox has Glenn Wreck and Shaun Vannity and an regular peppering of not so open minded talkers and "newzy " oozies...

The opinion part of the day is not "like" talk radio. It is talk radio with added video. Hannity is a continuation of his radio program. It is difficult to believe they have not even looked at it hard enough to realize that when they are attacking it. Illegally I might add.

The morning section is news just like anywhere else. It is the same on the other cable stations except with opposite opinion pieces.

He's trying to deny white house access as a way to punish fox news reporters.

I think the next step should be letting them in and not calling on them for years to ask questions as Bush did to Helen Thomas.

Interestingly enough, I do think FOX news and its obvious slant DOES need to be talked about.

This is not an attempt to say that everything coming out of FOX is worthless. Far from it. However, FOX is the first modern news station to openly embrace a politicial slant. There is not even the pretense of impartiality in FOX's presentation of the news.

FOX routinely charges the rest of the media as being biased, and yet it is FOX that has deliberately embraced bias? Curious.

I would challenge anyone to make the case that NPR's story on Afghanistan below has a liberal bias that FOX needs to counter.

FRONTLINE: obama's war: watch the full program online | PBS

FOX may be the only current news organization to have openly embraced bias, but it is hardly the first time a news outlet has embraced bias. Earlier in our countries history, the practice was quite common. It was called yellow journalism. There is a reason that these yellow practices were swept aside in the profession, and the unbiased presentation of the news is necessary and critical to the functioning of a democracy.

I worry about FOX's overt embracing of a particular point of view because it undermines journalisms role in our society. Obama may be tackling the problem in the wrong manner, which is almost certainly true, but the concern of a deliberately biased press is a valid one.

Can FOX be fair and balance and openly embrace bias? What facts go unreported? What scrutiny does the Republican party fail to get when FOX is looking? Are we in danger of both parties feeding priviledged information to their journalistic mouth pieces? Do we really want journalism sources that are tied to political parties? Is that good for America?

Fox does have many of it's employees on talk radio:

Napolitano, Kilmeade, Colmes, Beck, Hannity, Gibson and more.

I like the Brian & The Judge show myself. I think it's the best one on Fox Radio.

I would also add that a very prominent liberal talk radio host, Alex Bennett, said that Fox was "the most professional" cable news organization that he'd appeared on. Bennett had also been on MSNBC and CNN; he called their professionalism "amateur" compared to Fox. He also believed that Fox did have more fair news coverage than CNN or MSNBC.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

Fact is....FauxNews is basically right-wing radio on TV. Their line-up is comprised of the same wacko nutjobs that you can listen to on any right-wing radio.

Lacking credibility? "Some people say" is FauxNews

What Obama and his advisor said are accurate, and the White House attacks on Fox are smart. Now Fox will air these kinds of statements 24/7 and the far right can be safely distracted from the health care debate and the economy.

Well played.

Or they will be seen as the only people brave enough to stand up to the Democrats and their unwillingness to listen to people who view the station seen by more Americans than the others. Once you pit the television station against the administration (especially one as popular as Fox News), you paint its audience in much the same way. It rallies them to one focal point and may actually convert more people against the administration's agenda, when simply put, they elevated one station's status far more disproportionately to what they should have. Their status before hand was nowhere near as powerful as when the Obama administration and the Democrats prior to the election reacted to them so strongly.

That is one heck of a public relations gamble.

That is what I thought the whole "birther" movement was designed to do:lol:

You are entitled to your opinion. However, I listen to them, among others. Neither of our opinions matter. What matters is the president of the united states is trying to muzzle a major news network for partisan political gain. Government 101 = not good at all. In the end that's all that matters.

I thought that was the whole point of the "truther" movement.

Mr. Jones signed a statement for 911Truth.org in 2004 demanding an investigation into what the Bush Administration may have done that “deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

ps hey bb. :2wave:

How is calling them out for their deceitful propoganda "muzzling" them?

Nobody is trying to take them off the air...but they shouldn't be free to air their lies without being called on it.

The last time we saw an administration and the POTUS personally go after a news outlet, it was Nixon and the New York Times.

Too bad Nixon is not around to ask, "How did that work out for you?"

Murdoch's own world agenda has little to do with politics, and everything to do with money. He created FOX News because he saw a niche he could fill. Here in Houston, Murdoch bought out the Houston Post and turned it into a Liberal paper. Why? Because he saw a niche he could fill and make money. Murdoch made his money, and then sold the paper, which was later bought by the Houston Chronicle and shut down.

Murdoch is a money maker. Nothing more, nothing less. If he saw a chance to make more money, he would have made FOX News a Liberal news channel.

Then why does he continue to run the New York Post at a loss each year?

trying to keep them out of the reporter pool would contradict every folly you have posted
Fox new is as legitimate as the Left leaning hacks you masterbate too.
only problem is Fox news is the only one that differs from your warped perception of reality. Quickly run to olberman for a 'realiy dose' to normalize you

That, I would say is a perfectly constructed oxymoronic circle you have constructed there.:rofl

Not at all. Fauxnews is free to air all the garbage that they want. No one is trying to stop them.
What they are not free to do is air it without people exposing the propoganda.

So under your rationale....the National Enquirer and all other tabloid garbage equivalent to Fauxnews should be invited?

BTW....never have watched Olberman....sorry.
