Look Rev.......I'm not asking any personal info from you & don;'t really understand your animosity. I have been questioned quite a bit about my DEA background & offered to supply proof to a DP administrator or mod if asked.
I never got this upset or threatened anyone for asking.
You have claimed expertise in the military realm & I think it fair to ask for bona fides.......Don't you?

Back to "Old Man" eh..........We seem to have hit a raw nerve here Rev & I don't know why we should have??

Re: 43 U.S. Troops Have Died in Afghanistan Since Gen. McChrystal Called for Reinforc

So far he's handled it far better than Obamalama

That's strictly a matter of opinion. As for Bush, his military commanders really didn't like it when he spoke directly to his general on the ground in Iraq.

Please link to his "chain of command" and please link to how he violated it. /facepalm

I can't find an illustration or a verbal description of the current chain of command in Afghanistan. I was, however, able to find similar illustrations for other conflicts, including the latest in Iraq, and they confirmed what I believed:

The President is at the top, the Secretary of Defense comes next, the Joint Chiefs are involved up there somewhere, and beneath all of them comes regional commanders.

If you can find me a diagram from a reputable source that proves me wrong I'd be interested to see it, but I think given what we know about how similar campaigns have been organized in the last 10-20 years, McCrystal isn't supposed to talk directly to the President.

Because I know the drill, everytime some internet hero like you asks "innocent questions" it gets reduced to calling me a liar, or attacking my service.

I have given you my history. Why are you still on me?

Re: 43 U.S. Troops Have Died in Afghanistan Since Gen. McChrystal Called for Reinforc

Tactical Air Control Party Apprentice (TACP) (Males only)

The Tactical Air Control Party Apprentice (TACP) is a very physically, mentally and technically demanding job, and it's one of the few true front-line combat jobs in the Air Force. TACPs are rich in combat experience and military tradition. All members of this elite career field wear the black beret emblazoned with the TACP flash and crest. They are highly sought after throughout the world for the overwhelming combat power and lethality they bring to bear on the battlefield. TACPs enjoy the best of what both the Air Force and Army have to offer. If you'd like to be in a job that is both challenging and rewarding, this is the best job in the Air Force! In this career field, initially you may assist a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) to ensure specific ordnance or bombs are delivered on target. The apprentice level is the gateway to becoming a JTAC who is a specially trained and certified TACP responsible for briefing attack pilots as they enter the target area, ensuring they are aware of the target and friendly positions and other pertinent information. ...
Hell, even I've heard of these guys. It's Air Force SF.

Listen, Devil505, could you kindly STFU? I don't question the Rev's service, I just can't understand why someone who has that kind of experience would be okay with what the general did.

The right way to handle a disagreement like that isn't to question a man's service record, it's to ask him to explain himself.

Nah, we aren't considered SF, only CCT and PJ's are.

Thanks man....

As to your question. Up that high, I think the chain of command is a bit murky....

This is why I asked who he has spoken to in that time... And its not McChrystal reaching out to Obama that I am irked about, but the other way around, there are no reports that he has even talked to the secdef who talked to mcChrystal about a-stan.

So you admit you were attacking me. Noted.

Combat Control Teams, and Pararescue. ;)
Ah, gotcha. I was mis-informed. I think even by a recruiter ... imagine that ...

Not at all.....I was merely being direct. You were the one making personal attacks, not me.

Yeah, so Google would have me believe. Dammit.

Why on Earth would there be reports of that sort of thing? I mean, seriously, what says that the President and the SecDef can't or don't have private meetings about this sort of thing?

From reading Reagan's diaries, it seems like the President meets privately with his advisors on a regular basis, even in times of peace. What on earth leads you to believe Obama isn't speaking to his Secretary during a time of war, for crying out loud?

There was and is still talk that TACP should be considered "special forces". We went through as many schools as most SF types do.

Fine, maybe they are meeting privatley. But think about it. What do you think the soldier in theater is thinking sitting there taking fire with no clear mission?

What makes you think that the soldier in theater has the perception that they have no clear mission?

They have commanding officers who give them orders and they carry them out. I would assume that beyond that, they're familiar with the PR which tells us all that they're there to secure Afghanistan and get it up and running under a representative government duly elected by the people.

What more do they need to know?

Two reasons.

We felt the same way when Bush I wasn't sure if we were going into Bagdhad or not.

#2, from people I know in Afghanistan which is the impetus for my recent tirades on this topic.

Do you think they just accept that or do you think they do that critical thinking sometimes?

They were neither. I was just letting you know the way a man would question my service.
