In an interview broadcast Sunday on CNN's State of the Union, Gates praised Obama’s approach to decision-making as the nation's commander-in-chief.

"He is very analytical," Gates told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. "He is very deliberate about the way he goes through things. He wants to understand everything. He delves very deeply into these issues."

I think Obama is slowly beginning to earn a deeper and more genuine sort of respect from the American people than the wild adoration he inspired in the beginning. That was merely his surface charm, his facility with language, his exciting but rather general ideas about change.
Now, people are beginning to see the real Obama, the man behind the slogans... and intelligent people are liking and respecting him even more than before.

I think so too. It's hard to dismiss his intelligence and curiosity and work ethic (altho the Teleprompter meme pushers did try, that was one of the more ridiculous lines of attack).

I've seen a few conservative authors and newsmakers making similar comments to Gates'.

Re: 'I very much enjoy working for' Obama, Gates says

what would you expect gates to say about his boss?

with all due respect, the fact he was asked is far more interesting than his reply

he was also asked by john king if general mcchrystal's job was safe

truth is, the general is far more likely to quit, he will never be fired

rumors already abound---if he doesn't get his 40G...

just thursday, british general mackay in afghanistan stepped down for identical reasons

and he's only the most recent, there've been about a half dozen others who've resigned from MOD due to downing street's lack of commitment

BBC NEWS | UK | UK Politics | General quits 'over Afghanistan'

on august 30, general mcchrystal gave gates a dire assessment of goings on in afghanistan, calling for a complete change in strategy and an additional 40G troops

McChrystal: More Forces or 'Mission Failure'

last sunday, sept 20, obama went on FIVE sunday talks to say he was AWAITING an assessment, and he had NOT been asked for extra troops

it's common knowledge that he's pressuring petraeus and mcchrystal to delay their reports cuz the issuing of them will box obama in

even tho mcchrystal warns that delay means defeat

Afghan Troop Request Simmers - WSJ.com

we also have the ranking republican on armed services saying that he was told by gates that the prez has directed his generals to "scrub" their assessments, make afghanistan look better than it is, cuz obama doesn't want to double down on such a loser

Report: Obama told Petraeus and McChrystal to "scrub" assessments | The Cable

according to the fp story above, the pentagon's press secty said obama didn't ask for any cleansing, gates did

    LOL!

and then, just thursday, obama chaired the security council, pushing for a nuke free world, all the while sitting on knowledge he's had since inauguration about qom

indeed, obama sent a smooch filled valentine to the people of iran on march 21, knowing at the time its govt was in violation of IAEA and other international regulations

Obama Message to Iran - washingtonpost.com

    obama appears intelligent---LOLOLOL!

it may be true if you don't spend 30 seconds examining him

or if you don't own a tv

he LOOKS great getting off a plane, i'll give you that

    robt gates praises the president---LOLOLOL!

if you think obama looks intelligent these days, you must really be emphasizing style over substance

Then how do you explain the drop from 70 to 50 percent approval?

His policies - virtually none of them - have majority support. They still "like" HIM, as a person, but not as a president and policy maker.

I would expect him to tell whatever truth there was to tell, or find a way to nicely speak no evil if there was nothing nice to say. It's not that common for cabinet members to work for multiple presidents.

I can think of two others in recent times (I'm sure there's more). They are George Tenet, head of CIA under Clinton and Bush, and Alan Greenspan, who worked under and with several presidents, in different roles. I wouldn't be surprised if they were both asked to compare presidents.

The answer lies in your second sentence. One is job approval, one is personal approval. He consisitently gets high ratings on personal characteristics like leadership, etc.

I find TheProf's attitude of "things are going bad, LOLOLOL" to be very revealing. Some one who puts political points over the well being of the country and the people in it can and should be ignored.

Did you expect him to say that his boss was a dumb prick?

Not sure why this was particularly newsworthy.
