It so happens that Texas passed a state law on September 1 that specifically targets those who "use another person's name to post messages on a social-networking site without their permission and with the intent to harm, defraud, intimidate or threaten." Such willful behavior is now a third-degree felony.

I'm looking for more info's but we might have no longer allow political figure aliases? They are targeting "blogs", but those boobs do not know the difference.

What a ****ed up world we live in - esp Texas.

If anyone has any info on this, it would be welcome.
 
Isn't this just another unenforcable libel law? If I signed up on a message board as Barack Hussein Obama, and went around calling for the end of the white race and the rise of 'black power,' chances are forum administrators are going to ban me in lieu of contacting the police.

If people are actually impersonating others online, then yes, I think that should be illegal. Those kind of things are done with the intent to libel.

However, trying to ban nasty comments isn't going to fly...especially if the nasty comments are directed toward public officials (as the article implies). I don't see how anyone could view that as anything other than a 1st Amendment violation.
