Damn socialist farmers, depending on the government to make sure water is given equally to them!

Considering the source I am up against, I don't feel strongly compelled to provide evidence -- for all of its moralizing, the article does not mention practical things that would enable me to conduct a good investigation, like a label for the legislation so I could google it. Which automatically makes it uncredible.

Which completely ignores my entire point. You are citing dollar value. That is irrelevant. By same measure, the black sea produces a disproportionate amount of dollar value food in Russia because its caviar. Does that address actual amount of food produces in terms of tons or calories?

What kind of bat**** argument is that? By your reasoning, it doesn't matter how many tons of food you produce, it's just dollar value that matters. Therefore, if this one place produces 50% of dollar value but only produces a single ton of food, but the other place produces 6,000 tons of food, the high value location is really the breadbasket.

    That's insane.

Don't you think that the government has a responsibility to provide water to those farmers? Right or wrong, because of the creation of those irrigation canals, 1000's of farmers invested their lives in that land. Pulling the rug out from under them, especially for a damned bait fish, is just wrong.

Now want to then extrapolate the amount of meat that is produced directly from that grain? On a caloric basis, the central valley is completely irrelevant. An insane amount of calories are gained from high fructose corn syrup. That stuff is in everything.

Grain Belt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You are mistaking dollar value for tons. Caviar is super high in dollar value. Does that feed lots of people? No.

The notion that the food grown in the central valley, which for the most part is low calorie high dollar value is more of a breadbasket then the vast corn regions of the grain belt is certifiably insane and a complete failure to understand the modern American industrial food system.

Look at the list of the crops grown in your blog. Tell me, can we raise vast numbers of chickens, hogs and cows on that? Can we turn those crops into extremely high caloric sugar replacements? Can we produce billions of tons of bread products from them?

"Virtually all non-tropical crops are grown in the Central Valley, which is the primary source for a number of food products throughout the United States, including tomatoes, almonds,[16][17] grapes, cotton, apricots, and asparagus."

I wasn't aware there was a constitutional amendment that was voted to overturn the statute the court order was based on. Can you cite this?
lol you don't need a Constitutional amendment to turn the water back on. All you need is a simple piece of legislation.

What's the point in voting on legislation that you know is unconstitutional and will be quickly overturned?

I see you dropped your batcrazy argument this is Obama's fault.
Do you even know what the general welfare clause is? Do you know what the endangered species act is? Do you not know that legislation can be amendended through further legislation and that you don't need a court ruling to amend the Endangered Species Act?

Just because a "damned bait fish" is what is being brought to light and being shown to be the main concern, it is far from the biggest concern in this area. I think that it's a very complex situation that can't just be considered right or wrong. I think that the media is making it much more about the fish than senate has.

Where is the evidence that all the of Democrat senators tabled this?

And the title of the thread is dishonest. How could Senate democrats vote unanimously against the water allocations when that wasn't even in the bill?

Well, prove it is primarily about the fish then. The article doesn't count because it doesn't source the propositions, arguments, or reasoning behind the legislation. It is simply presupposing its existence, probably because the well-being of fish was probably mentioned as a reason against its passage by someone at some point. Worth noting, if fish are in danger of dying, water must be pretty scarce already.

Also, the government might have a responsibility, but it also has a responsible to its tax payers that their money is put into sound investments. The government can only do what it can do.

What ever's clever the fact of the matter is that 8% of this countries agricultural output is produced in the central valley.

The court order was based on protecting the delta smelt.
