Communisum in our Schools.

I'm not being critical of you but I find odd in the least that so many have accepted that, even though our schools are well funded, people still have to donate supplies because the district can't afford it on their own.

It DOES make you wonder where our Tax $ are going.

Without commenting on whether I believe this actually happened somewhere...

If that happened in my son's classroom, my head would explode. You'd hear about it on the news, because I'd probably lose my **** and get arrested.

That is the crazy thing though, a great majority of the schools are controlled locally.
Except for some curriculum standards, they are managed more by the school boards than anything else.

I know some teachers....Federal education board requirements have generated massive stacks of paperwork beyond belief, which is probably one reason for the massive bureaucracy.

Can you name a single industrialized nation where all schools are privatized? Japan maybe? No? What about Sweden? No? Oh you can't? Because this 'modern society' you speak of isn't realistic? Thanks for playing.
So, because it's never been done before it's not a "realistic" concept?

So let's go green into the 21st century create some stimulus and compuritize the system

Anyone that can "Reason", can play that part Ego.:) Feel free to join me.
And by "reason", you mean stereotype an entire group of people just because you disagree with them. Flawless logic, sir.

Just because something is wide-spread through government force doesn't mean it is good. It's kind of like claiming that the conquests of Christian or Islamic empires prove the validity of their religions. Might (i.e. aggression) does not make right!

It has been empirically shown, however, that private schools provide greater quality and value than public schools, and that home-schooled students perform better on standardized tests, but the issue of freedom is even more important.

May be true where you live, but where I live, the publicly-schooled students run laps around privately-schooled and home-schooled students when it comes to test scores. This also seems to be true in past places I have lived.

While this may have happened at a couple of schools (of which I don't agree) I call Bull**** that it is a common occurrence.

I have not encountered any school that has done something like this without the expressed consent of the parents.

You cannot tell me that a parent that spends say $25 on a lunch pail for their kid is going to be required to place it in a pile and then have their own kid wind up with a $5 lunch pail instead.

If you notice,,,I high-lighted the part that covers your last Statement.

Not really. You did elude to the fact that this redistribution of school supplies apparently happens more often than most parents are led to believe.

I thought there's no way that this redistribution of personal property really goes on in American school rooms. After a few searches and several calls to teacher friends, I've found this to be more common than I ever would have thought... [/COLOR]

I don't necessarily agree with it completely, but it happens whether we know of it happening directly or indirectly. For example, at my daughter's elementary school we buy extra school supplies for both our child and our child's class. The teacher(s) explain to us every year about school budget cuts and how they aren't able to buy everything their class needs to get through the entire school year. So, we buy extra consumable stuff (i.e., pencils, glue, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc.) for the kids so that as they run out of their own the teacher knows there is still more available should the child need it immediately.

Now, if it's school policy and the parents know this beforehand, it shouldn't be a problem. But if it's not and the teachers just do it and expect everyone - students and parents - to just shut up and take it, then that's wrong and the parents need to step up and hold the school (or the school system) accountable and stop this practise.

Prove it. I have never yet seen or heard about any state-level comparison where private schooled and homeschooled children did not come out ahead academically.

I suppose Podunk USA with one public school and one private school might come out that way on a county-level, but on a larger scale than that I'd have to see the proof.

You mean,,,I recognize Liberals, for what they are? "Teachers that steal, for the "Common Good"?

Yep... That's Flawless.:) Thanks.

No, I mean that you make generalizations based on stereotypes just because you disagree with their political ideology. Notice that I don't call you a "retarded conservative", nor do I refer to others as "stupid Libbos." Do you know why? I'm not a partisan hack.

I don't particularly care for it myself. IMO it's a problem of mismanaging funds. But I'm not entirely talking about "school supplies." I'm talking about notebooks, pencils, calculators, rulers and things I don't expect the school to buy for their kids to take back and forth to school. I don't expect the community to buy that stuff for my kid. Also, every year parents are asked to pay $8 for a class picture for their child to keep. There are some parents that either cannot afford it or are too lazy to write a check. I send in extra for those kids to get a photograph. I don't expect our tax dollars to cover things like that.
