Labor Unions See Sharp Slide in U.S. Public Support

Don't know what all it means, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Labor Unions See Sharp Slide in U.S. Public Support

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup finds organized labor taking a significant image hit in the past year. While 66% of Americans continue to believe unions are beneficial to their own members, a slight majority now say unions hurt the nation's economy. More broadly, fewer than half of Americans -- 48%, an all-time low -- approve of labor unions, down from 59% a year ago.

These results are from the 2009 installment of Gallup's annual Work and Education survey, conducted Aug. 6-9. The 48% of Americans now approving of unions represents the first sub-50% approval since Gallup first asked the question in the 1930s. The previous low was 55%, found in both 1979 and 1981.

IMO, many of those associated with the corruption of the Doofus administration will lose support from the general public. The unions have gotten sweetheart deals in the auto takeovers and look to be favored in the plans to take over healthcare. Many people will think that unfair.

I said it at the beginning of the health "debate" and I will say it again, unions should be a force that keeps the state at bay, not enable it. Strangely enough I read through my dad's union newsletter and it didnt have much on the health care debate.

Probably a result of the bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler. People are getting a first-hand look at what happens when unions are allowed to dominate businesses.

Labor unions are insufficiently powerful and excessively reformist, so perhaps the ejection of union leaders and implementation of a more legitimately democratic management structure would be a welcome sign to the discontent.

What does this have to do with Bush? Did he reassume the Presidency and I missed the coup? Damn, just damn. I always miss the interesting stuff.
