So Grassley pulls a Palin and shoves his foot in his mouth..... well, SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE (*say like Gomer Pyle). He's done the damage and is now happy to say: opps. That said, he goes on and has the ball to blame the internet. So much for the great party of personal responsibility.

Grassley Reverses Course: No Death Panels In Bill

"I was responding to a question at my town hall meetings," he told host Bob Schieffer. "I let my constituents set the agenda. A person that asked me that question was reading from language that they got off of the internet. It scared my constituents. And the specific language I used was language that the president had used at Portsmouth. And I thought that if he used the language, then if I responded exactly the same way, that I had an opposite concern about not using end-of-life counseling for saving money, then I was answering and relieving the fears that my constituents had."

That has got to be the stupidest response I have ever read.

Grassley has negotiated in bad faith this entire time, and after it became obvious the Democrats decided to cut him out of the loop. His Democratic partners on the Senate Finance Committee have bent over backwards to get his support on their version of the bill...and he repaid them by making a moronic claim of "death panels" and saying that he wouldn't vote for the bill - even if he liked it - unless most other Republicans voted for it as well.

This looks like a half-assed attempt at damage control. Grassley has been cut out of the loop and now he's trying to get back in the game, so he can continue stalling, stonewalling, and watering down the bill without even voting for it himself.

Exactly. I think he's also sealed his fate in his own state as well. If they re-elect them, I will be shocked.

Yes it's a suckers game to negotiate with the GOP. They have no interest in helping out with health care reform. They see a chance to score political points by defeating Obama and that's their motivation.

On the other hand Obama has no heart for this fight. If he can't smile his way through it...he'll just give up and go with some meaningless band-aid bill.

Just another example of how badly we are outnumbered in Congress by right wing hacks (99% of the GOP) combining forces with big money/corporate influenced bad Democrats.

It's going to be a long hard job to primary these bad Dems and get them voting in the interests of middle class Americans.

I don't even understand what the hell he is talking about.

Are you kidding? The only way that man won't see another Senate term is if he dies first. He's entrenched just like all the lifers in Congress.

Of course there's no death panels in the bill. They dumped that section. :rofl

Nothing like giving into the idiots, eh? Gotta love when morons lying about **** causes our congresspeople to edit a bill.

The idiots are the folks that insisted that the bill only insured end of life counseling and totally ignored what it said.

But, hey, keep saying that that many Americans are stupid. I'm sure it will win your party plenty of votes next years.

HAHAHA. I read it just fine. It's the right that were making things up, but you know trying to teach a kitchen table new tricks just doesn't work. :2wave:

Actually that section of the bill was written by REPUBLICAN Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia.

But who cares. Obama and all of us Democrats have a sinister plot to kill your grandma. Mwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

That's right, who cares who wrote it, it said what it said.

Not according to Isakson

“This is what happens when the President and members of Congress don’t read the bills," says Isakson in a paper statement. "The White House and others are merely attempting to deflect attention from the intense negativity caused by their unpopular policies. I never consulted with the White House in this process and had no role whatsoever in the House Democrats’ bill. I categorically oppose the House bill and find it incredulous that the White House and others would use my amendment as a scapegoat for their misguided policies,” Isakson continued. “My Senate amendment simply puts health care choices back in the hands of the individual and allows them to consider if they so choose a living will or durable power of attorney. The House provision is merely another ill-advised attempt at more government mandates, more government intrusion, and more government involvement in what should be an individual choice.”

Here's Johnny!: Isakson Pushes Back on "Death Panels" - But Also on House Democrats' Bill - Political Punch

This is the problem when you write a piece of legislation over 1,000 pages with language that neither the people nor the Congressmen themselves, and apparently the President, can understand.

OMG, this guy has been trying to train a kitchen table.

That's right, who cares who wrote it, it said what it said.

And even though I and others on here have gone through the section of the bill on end of life counseling on here with you line by line, for what ever reason, you refuse to accept that no "death panels" were ever in the bill and you still throw this garbage around. That's not exactly a hallmark of good character.
