And using Detroit hospitals for people closer to Detroit than a large Canadian city is a great idea because it saves money while still ensuring everyone is covered. Helps Detroit, too. Seems like a win-win-win.
Exactly. No system will be perfect. I wish our Congress would just get to the business of making the best one they can. Instead, they are politicking.
It's time for a revolution in our country. Not a revolution forged with guns and bombs but a revolution forged of compassion and altruism. A revolution that extends a hand to those who don't have and who cannot. A revolution that makes Health Care available to all those in the US.

Stekim, thanks for the info on the Detroit hospitals. That makes a lot of sense. Most of my Canadian friends like their health care and wouldn't want to live in the American system if you paid them.
Canadian health care has alot of issues and also costs alot more then ours. I heard yesterday that about 42% of Canada's tax revenue went into the health care system. Thats alot more expensive then ours. Some Canadian officals in the health care system believe it is near the breaking point.

A single payer system in the US would be like Medicare on steroids. I see no way we could afford it unless we taxed everyone 60%+.

    1) It costs a higher percentage probably because it covers a higher percentage of people. To me, other people's lives are more important than pocket change.
    2) There would be a lot of savings if US went single payer. I don't know how much, but it has a lot of advantages such as easy access to patient's records from anywhere (instead of calling and requesting a copy of paper records) and allowing more people to work with smaller recovery periods.
    3) Also, Medicare on steroids? Wouldn't that be an even higher satisfaction percentage than what we have now?

Guess you did not read the article or just choose to ignore the other 95% of it... typical right winger.

I also heard that US insurers have death panels that pick and choose people who they want to be killed off!

Seriously this disinformation has got to stop, or at least attempt to back up your accusations.

Not sure where you get your info, but American healthcare cost a lot more than the Canadian system. How the heck did you get so misinformed???

I believe that administrative costs alone in the American system is a staggering 30-40%. Incredible!!! If I were American, I would be outraged!

Government and private health and public policy analysts have compared the health care systems of Canada and the United States.[1][2][3][4] The U.S. spends much more on health care than Canada, both on a per-capita basis and as a percentage of GDP.[5] In 2006, per-capita spending for health care in the U.S. was US$6,714; in Canada, US$3,678.[5] The U.S. spent 15.3% of GDP on health care in that year; Canada spent 10.0%.[5] In 2006, 70% of health care spending in Canada was financed by government, versus 46% in the United States. Total government spending per capita in the U.S. on health care was 23% higher than Canadian government spending, and U.S. government expenditure on health care was just under 83% of total Canadian spending (public and private).[6]

Of course it does. MD's are always more expensive than veterinarians.

Canada cut's off folks from terminal treatment at, what? 65? And you don't have 15 million illegal aliens to take care of, either.

Just pointing out a fact. Care to show me where illegals receiving free health care is causing costs to go down?

Look, the United States has the largest minority population in the world. It's only a matter of time before that weighs on the social programs in this country. Don't try abd BS us and say that it doesn't matter.

I don't have the numbers to prove it one way, or another, but I bet the US has the largest welfare class of any industrialized nation in the world.

Do you honestly think that Canadians get treated by vets? Where in the heck did you hear that?

And you actually think that Canadians do not get healthcare after 65? Where in the heck did you hear that?

My dad, who is 78, is currently going through chemo. And if you think you're right, why do Canadians live longer than Americans?

Your "facts" are so incredibly twisted, you really need to get your information somewhere else. It's really sad how some people allow themselves to be so brainwashed, that reality is completely void.
