How to Kill a Union,,,in 3 Easy Steps.

I think monopolies are bad because they stifle competition.

They can have some positive effects, even Walmart lowered prices by squeezing out the competition. Problem is in the long run Walmart has NOT helped the economy because what Walmart sells only accounts for 20% of what Americans spend money on.

Without adequate income bye bye housing, utilities, education and healthcare. None of which Walmart marketing strategy provides.

Cheap goods yes. Affording what most Americans need? No. It hurts the economy, driving down wages.

You're kinda the queen of non-sequiturs, aren't you? So what?

But this just begs the question. Why do you think stifling competition is bad?

huh? you're very confused about how unions work.

Most professions have organizations that represent them, so that little $65 buck a month pays for a lot of good union activity, mostly representation and helping the business owners gain more contract work.

As a union sheet metal worker, I make twice what most untrained workers make. But I am certaibly free to quit and go work for a non-union business or even start my own.

Not a bit. I watched my Father work his butt off when he was in a Union. And when they went on Strike, he'd join the other poor guys "marching" around the Plant. Freezing their collective butts off. The Union Rep showed up in his Cadillac, opened the trunk of his car,,,and handed the Men bags of Potatos. He told them all "Good Job Men", and then drove off.

Of course that Bastard was still drawing a full Paycheck, from their "Dues". Dad got tired of being used, and quit the Union. He NEVER looked back.

We're discussing competition. Walmart is an example of someone who seeks to dominate the market by it's low prices- Walmart is MAJOR anti-union.

Besides, I like my jewel studded golden crown.:2wave: I love a guy who uses latin.:spin:

I loved it when Ronnie did this:

Reagan's war on labor began in the summer of 1981, when he fired 13,000 striking air traffic controllers and destroyed their union.

They fired the 1st shot by trying to cripple our entire Airline Industry. No Union has a Right to destroy Americas Transportation System, and wage War on our Economy. He laid waste to the leeches.
Not to mention that the strike was clearly illegal according to the Hatch Act.

This might have some shred of relevance if I had mentioned Walmart in any way, shape, or form. But I didn't. Hence, it's a non-sequitur.

Wal-Mart is nothing but another Liberal whipping boy to the left. Liberals just love to attack big business, big oil, big pharma, etc. etc. They hate success, they hate entrepeneurship, they hate the private sector.

Harhaw honey--

How to kill a union in 3 easy steps is the topic. Specific example of the king of all union busting is Walmart.

Speaking of Union Busting,,,this isn't being proposed by anyone, other than the B.O. Adminstration. True?

1) The first thing is to take away private voting by Union members by using a program called Card Checks. What is that you say? Well that is a way that will expose your private vote to your leaders. You will no longer be able to easily vote your conscience if you disagree with the majority in power. Right now that is overwhelmingly left wing. I know some of you oh so enlightened lefties are saying “Oh but I would never discriminate against you conservatives and I would respect your rights for sure.” All this while the bumper sticker on your car still says “Die Bush, Die!” This sentiment is exactly why most conservatives cannot speak out in this wacky town. But while you chew on that for a moment, imagine if the same thing were reversed and conservatives were totally in power and you believed that if you expressed your opinion, in vote form, for all to see, your livelihood could be in danger. Free choice in private voting is the key to our Constitutional Republic and should not be compromised in any way for any party. Period.

Walmart does some good things but at the expense of an overall bad affect on wages, which is what most of us would like to have to pay for the 80% of stuff we can't buy at Walmart--

Like education, transportation, utilities....housing,,,,medical care,,,,,

Walmart is cheap for everything else, but costly in the long run to the economy.

But it is OK for the Libs to kill unborn children on the altar of "choice" but woe to anyone who dares oppose them.

Not at all. I think if the company Walmart were changed it could still provide low cost goods but support it's workers better so they can purchase housing, education, transportation and health care.

Walmart has it's place, and so do unions. We need checks and balances on our economy.

Translation: Unionized! Wal Mart would be priced right out of the marketplace!

Unions had their place, but today, unions spell the death knell to businesses.

No one will deny that there are corrupt union reps and leaders. There are also selfish union reps. I certainly won't second-guess your father's decision. However, there are also a lot of hard-working honest union reps. Moreover, unions have won a lot of concessions for workers over the years. For many people unions have meant access to health insurance, pensions, increased wages, etc...

That's an entirely different topic. And doesn't belong in this Post. Stick to the subject please.

Again card check does not take away the private voting from union members. Card check would allow non-members the chance to join a union through a majority signing cards. However, leadership elections as well as any other internal decision in unions is determined by the union's constitution. Card check would not change how these decisions are made.

I'm an still interested in why you think stifling competition is bad in the context of our discussion. Of course, if you want to leave at this, I suppose that is fine. (Although a little less engaging).

Competition is good, monopoly no.
