So there's obviously a "LIST"... Is this acceptable and is it legitimate?

this is going to become an important story

first, the white house (thru gibbs) declared war on fox news on wednesday

gibbs has denigrated "cable tv" at almost every turn since, most egregiously thursday morning when he referred to "cable tv food fights" ginning up town hall angst

fine

except, it's a pretty dumb move, since it's only certain to grow fox's already surging ratings

while the network continues to beat obama over the head with the bats the bonehead daily provides

like this one, this email controversy

soon to become a scandal

major garrett emphasized this morning, on the network, where he gets regularly to tell his side, that HE never mentioned A LIST

the first person to refer to any LIST was gibbs, literally the dumbest press secty i've ever seen (no surprise, working for this white house)

anyway

garrett is asking---how can people who have never contacted the white house be on the receiving end of axelrod's emails?

gibbs is playing purposefully obtuse, pretending he doesn't understand what's clearly being asked

certainly clear by major's third iteration

anyway

gibbs says, provide me with list members' names

garrett couldn't at the time, he didn't have his sources' permission to divulge to the admin their identities

he does now

he will be grilling gibbs ongoing to get it out

how could folks who've never contacted the white house be getting emails from axelrod?

were they, perhaps, ratted out cuzza something they mighta said or done fishy?

the network will surely air very prominently the proceedings

megan kelly, that cutie with a law degree, got into a similar back-and-forth with asst press secty i-didn't-get-his-name

have you "deleted or expunged" any names you've received, she pressed again and again, while the deputy ducked, danced and dodged

per judge napolitano, deleting or expunging white house emails is expressly prohibited by law

we'll see

real smart, mr prez---declare war on "cable tv"

that couldn't be msnbc and mr immelt, by any chance, could it?

no one watches cnn anymore

gee, that only leaves one channel

unless you're referring to HGTV

LOL!

I notice how the lefties ignored this issue like the plague.

Is it just me? or Is gibbs kinda wimpy?

No seriously, it's like he starts every conference by getting yelled at and beaten down by the entire obama administration for yesterday's mistake before going on air...or "blowing hot air"... to the press.

Umm, okay, has anything been substantiated? How could anyone refute anything without proof either way?

Press Secretaries have a scummy job. It makes them all look bad. Tony Snow was the last one I can remember who actually had some integrity.

Well, he did completely dodge the question, and in the end, simply refuse to answer.

Yeah, he obviously didn't have any information to properly address it. He could have handled it better by simply saying that he would look into it.

How can he investigate without knowing which people Garret was talking about?

I think the point was much more about how he handled the question and the way he seemed to refuse to acknowledge it was even legitimate.

Well, until proof is offered, it really isn't legitimate.

If I said that people have PM'd me saying that you did X, you would need more info to address it properly. You would probably dismiss it too.

Depends. If it's something I systemically don't do, then I'm in a position to deny it.

Axelrod Viral Email Hell

Americans hate spam and getting spammed. Not the kind in the can but the kind that clogs your email inbox. The kind that makes you wonder where the sender got your email address. Today I got such an email from the White House and Obama adviser, David Axelrod. Here’s an excerpt:

Dear Friend,

This is probably one of the longest emails I’ve ever sent, but it could be the most important.

Across the country we are seeing vigorous debate about health insurance reform. Unfortunately, some of the old tactics we know so well are back — even the viral emails that fly unchecked and under the radar, spreading all sorts of lies and distortions.

As President Obama said at the town hall in New Hampshire, “where we do disagree, let’s disagree over things that are real, not these wild misrepresentations that bear no resemblance to anything that’s actually been proposed.”

So let’s start a chain email of our own. At the end of my email, you’ll find a lot of information about health insurance reform, distilled into 8 ways reform provides security and stability to those with or without coverage, 8 common myths about reform and 8 reasons we need health insurance reform now.

Right now, someone you know probably has a question about reform that could be answered by what’s below. So what are you waiting for? Forward this email.

Thanks,
David

David Axelrod

Think it’s no “big deal”? Think again, as I’ve never signed up at WhiteHouse.gov for anything so how did they get my address? Therefore, the Axelrod/White House viral email falls under the category of spam.

Is it illegal? Not according to the Federal government’s rules on spam mail:

The CAN-SPAM Act requires that a spam e-mail contain accurate header and subject lines, identify itself as an ad, and include the sender’s postal address. It also requires that the spam give recipients an opt-out method, so consumers can elect not to receive messages from the spammer in the future. To ensure that consumers are not exposed content they do not wish to view, the Adult Labeling Rule requires that senders use the phrase “SEXUALLY EXPLICIT: ”in the subject line of sexually explicit e-mail messages and ensure that the initially viewable area of the message does not contain graphic sexual images. The consent agreements announced today settle charges that the spammers violated the CAN-SPAM Act, the Adult Labeling Rule, or both.

Here’s the address of the email:

The White House • 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW • Washington, DC 20500 • 202-456-1111

and,

WhiteHouse.gov

Is the viral email an “ad”? It sure seems to fit the qualifications of one: a political ad, mass marketing of President Obama’s healthcare reform.

Even if it’s not illegal for Obama’s website to spam Americans and my email box, the question still remains, how did the White House get my email address? Here’s the facts:

I have visited the website, WhiteHouse.gov.. but,

I never signed up to receive emails, nor have I sent an email to the White House website address.

During today’s White House Press briefing, FOX New’s Major Garrett asked Obama’s Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about the Axelrod viral email. Garrett stated that he’d been contacted by several people who, like me, had received the email, and, like me, wondered how they’d received the email, when, like me, there was no reason for the White House to have their address.

Gibbs wouldn’t give Garrett an answer. In fact, he was highly dismissive of Garrett and Garrett’s claims while picking on Garrett’s “demeanor”. Gibbs asked Garrett to give him the names of the people so he, Gibbs, could inquire if they were on the “list”. Since I got the viral email and the people who contacted Garrett got one too, then we’re on a list. Not just any list, but a list compiled and maintained by the White House. A list used in a giant mass marketing spamming of America.

Note to David,

“don’t spam me, man.”

*UPDATE*

Hot Air had this to say about Axelrod/White House Viral Email:

From Hot Air:

Major Garrett grills Gibbs: Why are people getting unsolicited e-mails from David Axelrod about health care? Update: See White House privacy policy

He claims to have evidence that some entity — either the White House itself or The One’s army of cultists at Organizing for America — has now sunk to the point of spamming people about the glories of socialized medicine. I suspect Ace is right in thinking that this is the origin of the spam and that Garrett has his facts slightly wrong: It’s not Axelrod who’s spamming people, it’s Obama cultists acting at Axelrod’s behest by copy/pasting his post and sending it to friends. If Fox wants this charge to stick, they have to show us exactly what Garrett was forwarded (minus the “to” and “from” lines, natch). Frankly, given The One’s ubiquity on television and in print, the White House might as well go the rest of the way and start pushing e-mails at us too. The more talking points I hear, the more they blend together as noise and the easier it is to tune them out.

Now, if Garrett can somehow put the spam story together with this story, then we’re cooking with gas.

Sorry, Hot Air, I got the email. There was no “cut and paste”. As I stated before, I did visit WhiteHouse.gov but I never left a comment, never sent an email, and never signed up to receive one.

Who is "LBG"?

No clue, I did cursory google for something on what the emails were.

Further more, the WH is now admitting there WERE emails, but blame a 3rd party for it.

The White House said Sunday night that it will change its e-mail sign-up procedures after some recipients of a health-care e-mail complained that they had not asked to receive updates.

“We are implementing measures to make subscribing to e-mails clearer, including preventing advocacy organizations from signing people up to our lists without their permission when they deliver petition signatures and other messages on individual’s behalf,” spokesman Nick Shapiro said in a statement Sunday night.

After a few such recipients appeared on Fox News, White House officials determined that advocacy groups on the right or left could have sent in the names without the person knowing it.

For instance, a group might have sent WhiteHouse.gov a comment from each person who had signed an online petition, and the White House would have captured the e-mail address.

Wait... you're taking the WH's word as that's it, that's the reason and moving on?

Seriously?

Yes. I seriously doubt that they think they could get away with sending people unsolicited emails.

Lol?

So the WH has been so inept as to allow an unchecked 3rd party to use their email list to spam people?
Why would a 3rd party spam WH e-mails NOW instead of, say, one of the most unpopular presidents in the world, George Bush, just a year ago? Not only that, how could they be so inept as to not discern the difference in e-mails listed in comments? Yea, the WH explanation is SOOOO believable.

The very fact that they are taking emails at flag@ehitehouse.c... IS the point.

By default they have created a list and the Whitehouse IS responsible for this fiasco.. federal crime and all... and tell me again who is the Boss at the Whitehouse?? And who is ultimately responsible for this felony?

Lol?

Did you read the article?

Or are you twisting things to fit an agenda?

I reiterate:

This is NOT about getting spammed.. the real story is an out of control Whitehouse that thinks community organizing, from the highest office in the land, is acceptable. They have stepped in a big steamy pile here of their own ineptitude and disregard for responsibility. I can't wait to see how they try get out of it.

I predict at least 5 different excuses before Axlehood is tossed under the bus to save the anointed one's butt.

Have you kept up with this?

The WH is running all different stories now about how the hell they let a 3rd party spam with their email.

Got links?
