Chavez claims Colombian troops entered Venezuela

Chavez claims Colombian troops entered Venezuela

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday charged that Colombian troops had entered Venezuela across the Orinoco River, a move he warned was a "provocation" by his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe.
    WTF????

Chavez looking to start a war down south or something? First he threatens to invade Honduras, and now he's grousing about Colombia?

Times like this I wish we still had something equivalent to the old Iowa-class battleships. Could give Chavez a literal boatload of attention by parking one at the mouth of Lake Maracaibo.

Eh, dunno since I think Putin and his boys patrol Chavez's waters now. I dont think it would be wise to start the nuclear pissing contests again. Although my personal favorite in the Navy would be the Aegis Cruiser

Those links relate to Naval exercises that were conducted LAST YEAR.

We conducted our own naval exercises a year ago also.

Now how about a link that the Russians are patrolling Venezuelian waters TODAY?

Today it's not ships, but bombers.

Russia weighs Cuba, Venezuela bases: report

Zhikharev indicated that Russia was looking only at occasional use of the facilities -- not setting up permanent bases in the region.

He noted that the Venezuelan constitution prohibited establishment of military bases of foreign states on Venezuelan territory and described the Russian possibile use of the facility there as "we land, we complete the flight, we take off."
