    Labor Gets Involved In Town-Halls

Labor Gets Involved In Town-Halls - The Atlantic Politics Channel

In the past few days, liberal activists have started to plan their counterattack on the conservative opponents of health care reform; now, the AFL-CIO says it will get involved, too. In a memo to presidents of national and international unions, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney called on affiliate unions to launch a 30-day campaign of activism in support of health care reform--and, perhaps most significantly, to turn out union members to town-hall meetings. Part of the plan is to "organize major union participation in Congressional Town Hall meetings, both live and virtual 'Tele-Town Hall Meetings. A list of these meetings will be sent to you as soon as we receive it along with the list of approximately 50 high priority districts," the memo states.

Labor unions have traditionally provided the foot soldiers in Democratic politics, waving signs, phone banking and turning out votes...now they'll play in town-halls, where conservatives have been outperforming liberals in attendance, shouting down reform and generally dominating both the meetings and the national news coverage of the White House's reform effort.

Seems like the dems are organizing an intimidation campaign against the citizenry with the use of labor unions....

It's free speech so god bless em, but it sorta seems ironic having pelosi, boxer, and others screaming foul over thier own misinformation regarding the town hall protestors.....

This will not end well, labor unions should be against this crap. I have yet to meet a union guy who doesnt have health insurance. I hope the IBEW (which is my dad's union) doesnt follow that slimeball Sweeny into this fight.

Some people actually care about more than themselves.
It's time for a revolution in our country. Not a revolution forged with guns and bombs but a revolution forged of compassion and altruism. A revolution that extends a hand to those who don't have and who cannot. A revolution that makes Health Care available to all those in the US.

Not true, union membership may reflect your politics, but it doesnt equate to only caring for members - its not a masonic lodge after all.

No,,,Union membership reflects the drone mentality to me. Creatures that "pay" Taxes, and Dues to professional leeches that 'live" off your labor. If that makes you happy,,,

    Have fun.

You would think that the management would be more willing to have government healthcare, as employers are currently footing the bills. The healthcare costs for union workers is quite expensive.

True that....the Masons aren't known for beating up non-Masons, vandalizing the property of non-Masons, and waging campaigns of intimidation against the employers of non-Masons. For that level of social consciousness, one has to belong to a union.

So... it's okay that the insurance and drug co's are spending 1.4 million a day to try and spread fear about healthcare reform, but not okay for the average working stiff to voice their opinion?
