    Marines Ban "Selected" Websites....

They give "Security Reasons"...But I think they're also trying to control what the Troops have access to. I'll bet B.O. has a hand in this.

Why do people post articles w/o reading them?

    Dude, read your own article!!

Banning those sites is totally reasonable and makes perfect sense. Loose lips sink ships.

They should have banned the carrying of digital cameras and cell phone cameras in detainment centers a long time ago.

As technology and the internet changes (especially with Twitter and Facebook) you can't take any chances and risk the security of a mission.

And your comment about the President is either hyper-partisan lameness or a total lack of understanding of how the military works.

It is security reasons. Many sites where downloading or live streaming video is involved also involves viruses. While not classified, many unclassified computers connected to the Internet contain sensitive information.

It is also for policy reasons. The last thing any family member needs is to find out their son or husband was killed in a fire fight from YouTube or from a friend who received an e-mail from a friend in Iraq/Afghanistan before the military has a chance to do the right thing and inform them correctly and with the honors and discretion it deserves.

It is also for technical reasons. Live streams and downloading sucks away bandwidth. Bandwidth that is needed to conduct business in a war zone.

This isn't a political thing. This is a military thing. And it is right.

I read that the Marines have "controlled" what the Troops can see, and hear. You've decided that's perfectly "OK" with you. Then,,,you procede to state that even MORE Censorship is needed.

    Please...

The military didn't have to content with the Internet during Vietnam. It's not about receiving information. CNN, ABC, FOX and what ever else news agency is open from border to border. News channels are broadcasted in the mess halls on the bases in Iraq. There is also letters and phone calls if one needs to know what arcade game just got placed in the local ice cream parlor back home. The problem with the Internet is that information also goes out and this is why blog sites and sites with open discussions (debatepoliticis.com) is banned from government and military networks.

Most sensitive and classified information gets passed without the guilty even aware they did it.......

My information + another guys information in another unit = intel.

You've decided that The Corp has a "Right" to control every minute, of everyday of a Marines Life,,,and what he or she can see and hear. I'm for keeping the Troops Safe, and Free.

    If that's being "Partisan",,,yep, I am.

Who is suggesting the Military want to control ALL information? Keep things in perspective.

It's not partisan. It's knee jerk reaction to something that is not an issue. "Control" of a Marine's life is not the issue. He can receive news information from plenty of authorized web sites, televisions in messhalls, care packages, letters, and phone calls. But that Marine will be controlled when it comes to eating up bandwidth, passing unauthorized information, and risking networks to viruses. And when it comes to the Internet cafes over there, the more bandwidth the individual uses, to down load some song or video or to watch YouTube, the less bandwidth everyone else in that network has.

    Welcome to the 21st century.
