Re: Gates says it's time to 'move on' from his arrest

While his request to move on is probably the right thing for everyone, it's all too convenient and seems very disingenuous to me.

The only thing I think the tapes will show is that Gates was in fact a complete asshole. Many people will say that right or wrong, Gates deserved to go to jail for the way he was acting. You all know my opinion on this for the most part so I'll not belabor the issue.

The problem I have is that Gates is sticking to this race angle. How is this going to be an opportunity to improve fairness in the criminal justice system? Gates said...
"This could and should be a profound teaching moment in the history of race relations in America," Gates said. "I sincerely hope that the Cambridge police department will choose to work with me toward that goal."
This was not about race. His comments are insincere. He's holding to the idea that he was persecuted because of his skin color and not because he was a loud mouthed jerk.

I don't like this guy. Not at all.
    *insert profound statement here*

He's not a likable guy, but there is no freedom more essential than the freedom to be a loud-mouthed jerk.

He ran his mouth, he got his time out, he got his fifteen minutes....let's go back to ignoring him and treating him like the irrelevancy that he is.

Gates is a race hustler. And he makes good money at it which is why people like him, Jackson, and Sharpton, are still around.
