Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s pick for OMB director, failed to pay $15,000 in taxes

That is what I asked about Geitner.

How does a guy who doesn't pay his taxes become Treasury Secretary?

No idea. It's like the problem that IRS has with all the IRS employees that are late on their taxes. It's irritating. How does that happen?

So sometimes it's a standard, and sometimes it's not. Sounds like partisan theater to me.

Tim Geithner failed to pay 34 grand. Not only did Shumer want him confirmed, "as quickly as possible", but everyone from the Left wanted him confirmed as well.
Was he confirmed?

I really really really really really hate to admit that I agree with Schumer but he's right. This guy should not be acceptable for the Office of Management and Budget. He can't even keep track of his own taxes.

I have no problem with this either.

however Schumer is wrong on one point Geithner failed to pay his taxes and was put in charge of the treasury lol.

Greetings, Lutherf. :2wave:

Has Al Sharpton paid anything on the nearly $5 million dollars in back taxes he has owed for years?

Was he nominated for a cabinet post?

Frankly, this tax is something that all kinds of people either miss or avoid. The person paying the tax doesn't get to write it off and the person getting paid often doesn't want the W-2 that comes with the payment. I actually had to come up with a form letter explaining this stuff to both payers and payees where this "Nanny Tax" applies. The letter is more to cover my ass than anything else because so many people try to avoid it one way or another.

You know very well its evade and not avoid.

Greetings, Hari Seldon. :2wave:

What does that have to do with my question?

It didn't seem relevant to the thread. A lot of people on both sides of the isle don't pay their taxes.

To be fair, he did complain about how hard it was to do the right thing:

Agreed--do you remember how fair the GOP was 8 years ago starting 11/04/2008 ?

I actually don't agree. I'm fine holding GOP nominees to the same standard as Democrats, especially if this guy was one of those bitching and whining about others with tax problems, but these tax problems are IMO pretty minor in the big scheme of things. I'm not sure I want Mulvaney as OMB director, don't know much about him, but if he's otherwise qualified, I wouldn't want him disqualified over this.

Just edit to say I do taxes for a living and see all kinds of people who for whatever reason have tax problems, didn't file the right returns, didn't claim something as income, whatever. I just don't find that having a tax issue come up has necessarily anything to do with integrity or honesty. Very often it's ignorance of the requirements of the tax law, or an oversight, or something they didn't tell their tax preparer.

I'd feel differently if he'd been told the rules and ignored them to save money, but we don't have evidence of this. The same thing was true with Geithner - was willing to give him credit for not intentionally evading taxes.

Of course; they had to expand their safe spaces into the media in order to buttress their lies, deceptions, and smears from the cold, hard truths of reality.

Civics 101. An amendment to the Constitution is Constitutional.

/lesson

Not if it contradicts another amendment. If Amendment A conflicts with Amendment B, then Amendment B has to be repealed. An amendment must also be ratified via an Article 5 convention (that's a favorable vote of 2/3 of the House, 2/3 of the Senate and 3/4 of the States). Without ratification, enforcement of a constitutional amendment would be unconstitutional.

Read Article 1 of the 21st Amendment and you'll see my point.

You know better than to challenge me on The Constitution and now I've made you look silly. I predicted the Liberals wouldn't just let it go and look.

But, hey! Keep thinking a constitutional amendment can't be unconstitutional. That'll be hilarious.

So, it's unconstitutional for a member of Congress to introduce an amendment to the Constitution? Interesting history book you've got there....
