After getting shot in head, Texas lawmaker planning "celebratory gunfire" bill

"After being hit in the head with a bullet shortly after midnight on New Year's Eve, state Rep. Armando Martinez plans to file legislation aimed at reducing or preventing celebratory gun firings.

"If my legislation could help save a life, you know, then definitely that’s what we’re gonna be looking at doing,” the Weslaco Democrat said Monday in a phone interview from the Valley Baptist Medical Center shortly before he was released"

Another liberal coming after your guns people! Wake up, first it'll be celebratory gunfire and then they'll come after accidental discharges and before you know it we won't have the right to kill with negligence anymore. If he didn't want to be shot, he shouldn't have been standing anywhere in TX, why punish honest law abiding citizens for his dumb mistake of having a head vulnerable to bullets in the first place?

Next thing liberals will be whining about is toddler's shooting people once a week on average for the last year. They'll be wanting to deny good hard working toddlers, their basic god given rights as an American, to find an unsecured fire arm and harm themselves and anyone else.

And if you try and convince me liberals aren't just bringing these things up because they hate guns and want to tread on our rights, I'll call you dishonest. We all know liberals care nothing for their children and communities, they only care about making us patriots look bad. There is nothing that can be done to save innocent lives from accidental discharges, that's a fact proven by a statement the NRA made when it blocked the CDC funding to study the problem. And anyone who questions the NRA is just dishonest and a loon.

Idk, I think the moron in question just got shot in the head 3 days ago and is looking for revenge on those who shot him through legislation...

Getting shot in the head kinda has that effect.

Ex post facto laws are unconstitutional. Perhaps a helmet law for those prone to stand outside on New Years would work - just be sure to account for the ricochet threat. ;)

As I said in the op, why punish law abiding citizens for his mistake of having a head vulnerable to bullets. It's not their problem where the bullet ends up after they fire it blindly in the air.

There already is a law in Texas against celebratory gunfire. It's a $4,000.00 fine and a year in jail. And if someone is injured by it, then the charges are increased to felony endangerment, which carries a prison sentence.

No one is coming after our guns. This cat wants to pass a law that will restrict firing gun into the air in a populated area.

As far as negligent killings go, there are already laws against that.

If the bullets come down on his own property, then I have no problem. However, if they come down on someone else's property, then he is a criminal, as far as I'm concerned. Too many people scream about their rights, while at the same time willing to violate the rights of others in the process. Freedom doesn't work like that. Along with rights come responsibilities. At least, here in Texas, you are in deep doo doo if you fire your weapon irresponsibly like that.

Firing up and away is not generally a safe direction. It is also cheaper and easier to toss/dump your trash along the roadway.

Meanwhile in Texas, celebratory gunfire is punishable by a $4000.00 fine and a year in jail. If someone is injured, the charge is felony reckless endangerment, which carries a prison sentence, and if someone is killed, the charge is voluntary manslaughter, which carries a lot of years in prison.
 
Does anyone know if Dick Cheney was in Texas for New Year's?
