House GOP reverses course on gutting ethics panel

What did Obama have to say about Debbie Wasserman Schultz cheating against Bernie Sanders? Did he take a leadership role there and go against his own party?

It is my opinion that the Democrats had already coronated Clinton before the primaries even began. The Democratic primaries were a joke.

And here is the real reason why they apparently wanted to do it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/inve...4732caefe81_story.html?utm_term=.b6a3f2f1066f

Three former top aides to President Obama appeared as speakers at the event.
Oh yeah.

Congress had approved two sanctions bills containing passages that exempted the project, which Obama signed into law in August 2012 and January 2013. On June 3, 2013, five days after the Baku conference, Obama signed an executive order assessing economic sanctions against Iran that also exempted the project.
Hmmm...in light of this it looks like Trump wants the Ethics committee to continue doing the good work of exposing the corrupt Obama administration. No doubt there will be a lot of revelations once Obama is out of office.

I literally have caramel popcorn from Christmas. Time to grab some. This is gonna be epic.

And he hasn't even been sworn in yet. At this rate we're gonna need a new tub of popcorn a week.

P.S. I'm jealous of that gift!

Ryan looks the worse in how this went down, by his own story the R's in the chamber ignored him in going after the ethics operation. Then it was Trump who had to even before he takes the chair fix the situation with his Twitter. On a day where everything is coming up Trump...Ford will not put the announced plant in Mexico, Kelly got chased out of FNC, Assange is on Fox completely backing up Trumps story that US intell and Obama and Ryan and McCain are all either wrong or lying about the Russians trying to swing an election for Trump...saying that they are working to weaken Trump before he takes the chair....for obvious reasons.

Trump is winning BIGGLY today!

BTW: I have no doubt that the D's are reconsidering as we speak their "Plan" to be a speedbump in the approval of the Trump Cabinet....this will cost them if they go through with it, Trump will make sure of that.

Tens of millions of dollars and countless hours investigating some emails thanks to them, and they really were going to try to protect themselves from future investigation?

The hypocrisy has no limits with those swine.

So? I always give credit where credit is due. And just to remind you, this thread is not about me, although you are definitely appealing to the part of me that is an attention whore. So please, no more personal attacks or snide remarks. I would appreciate you sticking to the topic.

I see you borrowed my "credit due" reply to your fb post.

It's true! Give credit where....

You are correct. I am a bass player. I never would have figured it out. LOL.

Donald Trump, whose political instincts have always been much stronger than his opponents have wanted to admit, did not take long to exploit the opportunity. Piling on to a chorus of bipartisan criticism, he blasted House Republicans for making the weakening of the independent ethics watchdog their first priority in a series of tweets. Within hours, they backed down.
There are no two ways about this: This is a good outcome. Now more than ever, it's important to check government for abuses or signs of self-dealing. And the only way to do that in a reliable manner is to preserve strong independent institutions -- like the OCE -- that are not dependent on the will of political partisans.
But while it is a good outcome, and seems to showcase the President-elect's commitment to "draining the swamp," it is no reason for people who are worried about the corruption Trump may bring to Washington to let down their guard. On the contrary, it should give them three reasons to worry more about the years to come.
First, it shows that Trump is much more likely to be popular than they tend to think.
Trump gets an easy win, and that could signal a problem - CNN.com

I have probably already copied too much but there is so much good stuff here...this is a great piece by a relative nobody.

People should read it.

Indeed.

And Trump's little ta-do tweet was more about the timing. It's not what got members to reverse.

Still...there are those on record now with that vote.

This is going to be the most ethically challenged admin and Congress....ever.

Given that Washington has long been like an internet connection that is supposed to be working at 30 megabits but most of the time can barely manage 1 I am not caring a whole lot about this fear.

If by good you mean "Orwellian Doublespeak in a desperate attempt to hate Trump", then yes, it's a good read.

Donald Trump opposes Corruption and that's all the more reason why we should be concerned!!! I wouldn't be surprised if that article was written by Chelsea Clinton herself.

How do you know that? 'Cuz he said so?
He's a shyster snake-oil salesman who's made big bucks bilking rubes.

I meant good as in tracking with reality. As for Trump hate and little people hate I can read around that sort of thing, one has to be able to do that these days, because THE ELITE SUCK!

Well, we do need to keep in mind that he isn't particularly careful with his words and that he regularly says things that disagree with advisers' prior statements, etc.

It may just be Broken Clock Syndrome, or he may genuinely think it was a bad move. At least he said it was bad, for whatever reason.

All I see is him criticizing the timing...

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump:
With all that Congress has to work on, do they really have to make the weakening of the Independent Ethics Watchdog, as unfair as it may be, their number one act and priority. Focus on tax reform, healthcare and so many other things of far greater importance! #DTS

As well the idiocy of Congressional R's. He has been saying from the jump that the DC ELITE dont know what they are doing, this was more of that.

That excuse has passed its "Sell By" date.

Trump is right and wins too much.

You need a different argument.

You seem to be assuming that I'm wrong in thinking it was one of the very few things he's actually been right about politically - at least since he decided to involve himself in open politics starting with the birther thing.

(I say "open" to flag that I am discounting his bragging about spending his entire business life using wealth to get political favors, like special tax deals for projects and whatnot. But that crony capitalism stuff is all cool when it's your guy, I guess).

Not that you've ever accepted a criticism of Trump.....

Why'd he surround himself with DC elites if DC ELITEs are the problem?

He jumps on whatever bandwagon he thinks looks good at the moment. A ton of people objected, so, he calculated that he might as well join in the chorus.

It's very odd that you support him out of cynicism about politics, but assume that he, now a politician, is magically above it all.
