We Tracked Down A Fake-News Creator In The Suburbs. Here's What We Learned

I don't believe things that I read without taking a step back and doing a bit of digging regardless of how it initially makes me feel. And as the interview states, fake news isn't successful when created for left wingers.

Are you kidding? ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, and on and on. Shirley you jest.

So you'll determine the truth or falsity of something based entirely on whether it's more critical of the right? Lol. Sounds reasonable. Actually it sounds exactly consistent with who I understand you to be. If I were to seek out someone on the left who I felt could put their partisan bias aside, it would not be you or the OP.

No, but i have seen the lies that the right uses to "justify" their arguments.

Here's an example:

Now, President-Elect Trump, himself, helped promote these lies. Do you think he later clarified that they were wrong?

Why would he? That would undermine his manipulative agenda.

The left lies too, AG. Anything you attribute to the right exists on your side as well, despite your beliefs in your own superiority. I get you'll never acknowledge it and I kinda don't really care to waste my time any more.

I'm not arguing that the left never lies.

I'm arguing that the right has a systematic problem when they use "media bias" as an excuse to defer to their own personal confirmation biases.

Yeah, sure. If you've ever shown yourself capable of being critical of anything on the left (or positive about anything on the right), I've never seen it, hence you tend to only have cred with those who agree with you.

The right is on a theological, militaristic an anti-American agenda. That's why they and their news are the way they are.

But what about that graphic and what Trump said?

Funny how you guys just shift the focus.

I have plenty of problems. This isn't about me, XF.

When viewers are primed with the idea that if a message says something positive about liberal policy, it must be part of the liberal media bias conspiracy, that becomes a dangerous formula for a one-sided (and regularly incorrect) political narrative.

You will find me often extremely critical of the right, but i try to make sure that i'm using facts about reality. Sometimes that might mean that i make an ass of myself, that i stand corrected, or what have you. What's important is the ability to discern truth. And the right has eroded their ability to do that by attempting to mute any message that comes from outside the echo chamber.

You're right, it made you guys lose a Presidential election.

Jingoistic, sloganeering, horse hockey.

The left has a problem that they can never admit it exists.

What? That's not true at all. Did you miss Cardinal's post? It was spot on.

When i find out that an argument is using has elements of dishonesty, i attempt to remove the dishonesty. Now, you are free to your opinion about how successful that attempt might be, but you can't rightly claim that i refuse to admit the existence of any such problem.

I've seen you make plenty of blanket statements about everyone on the right, so if you're just predisposed to assume the very worst about about us and claim often just what terrible people you think we must must be, I can not imagine why anyone on the right should care what you think.

You think you're some epitome of what folks should aspire to be and you're not. You're just a shill for the left. It's why I've seen you defend lefties for doing things you attack righties for.

Bingo.

That's because left-leaning fake news generators already work for the drive-by media. Remember this?

The blogger who created the website, a Democrat activist from Philadelphia named Paul Lukasiak, did a yeoman’s job in assembling released Bush Air Force records and relevant Air Force regulations, but then he distorted and dissembled them to reach egregiously wrong conclusions to incriminate Bush.

That doesn't address what i was saying. I'm not saying that we cannot make blanket statements. I'm not saying that i'm not predisposed in any way. I'm also not saying that you need to care about what i think. You're not accountable to me, we are only truly accountable to ourselves.

What i am saying is that it's important to actually listen to the other side and try to seriously consider their arguments. The right is eroding their own ability to do that with their excessive abuse of the "media bias" excuse in conjunction with not only publishing misinformation, but neglecting to retract such misinformation.

No, your characterization is in error.

Don't demand of anyone what you're not willing to extend yourself. When have you ever not assumed the worst was true about righties

Why can't you address the argument? Why are you only addressing my behavior?

People who lean right wing, see the world through ideological blinders and tend to feed off of raw emotion and run with any headline that seems to fit their preconceived notions.

This could apply to plenty of people on the Left too.

Just sayin'.

I have SEEN you embrace it. Your post is false.

That could be true but only if you confuse the satire with the argument.

Running away from your past actions and declaring them satire doesn't excuse the dishonesty implied from your actions and your statement regarding false news. You do not attempt to remove the dishonesty if it agrees with your confirmation bias, you embrace it.

It seems to me that the ability to critically analyze the news is a skill that could be taught at the high school level, perhaps in conjunction with some other class like logic, argumentation and debate, etc. The proliferation of click-bait and fake news sites seems to suggest that providing this kind of education, along with some basic understanding of how journalists develop their information and the standards to which they are supposed to adhere, would be a wise policy and would help people think more critically and clearly about what they read.
