What Went Wrong: A Police Video Deconstructed : NPR

What's striking about all the controversial police videos we've covered is how different they can look to people, depending on their backgrounds. If you're a police officer, certain things might stand out, while if you're a civilian or you've been arrested by a police officer, other things might catch your attention.

So we thought we'd try something new, using a video brought to our attention by member station WFDD in the Triad region of North Carolina. The recordings come from the body cameras of two officers as they make a routine call — which then goes bad.

We asked several people to watch the video, each one separately, and then added their observations as "pop-up" quotes in the video. All three concluded that the incident was mishandled by police, but they have different takes on exactly what went wrong — and why.

It's not complicated. The Police, our social activities babysitters, are given about 60 hours of gun shooting training and about 8 hours of "how to handle stessful/mental health/domestic problems. Hmmm. could that lead to negative results? Does a cat have an ass?

It should have been fairly easy to see if the property owner was his mother, and validate or invalidate his story.
I wonder if that really was his mothers house, or was it just a bluff.
It looks like it was his Mothers home.

It appears the cop completely believed that was his mom's house.

But, it appears the cop suspected he had an outstanding warrant and was simply buying time for the partner to run a search. Took a bit longer to run the search due to incorrect name (mom's name originally), claiming he had no ID then finding one. Turns out he did have a warrant - the cop's intuition was accurate.

I found the video interesting. Thanks for posting it Schism.
