Monday night ratings down, again

I'm normally a huge NFL fan, and every year I am glued to the games.

This year, not so much.
I'm just not feeling it, and it angers me to see jackasses kneeling or sitting during the National Anthem.

My advice to them is this:
Get out in the community and make a difference to blacks and others of color.
Find out where the problems are, and if there are any problems between the people on the street and the cops.
Get involved and help to make a difference.

Sitting down on the sidelines of a football game isn't going to accomplish jack-s#%t except to make you look like an insolent, petulant child.

Just my opinion.
;)

I don't watch football so I have no idea, but are the commentators talking about the "protest" crap during the game?

If a person starts to watch the game a few minutes after the opening kickoff, will they ever know what happened prior to the kickoff?
You know, I don't watch football any longer as well, so I could not really tell you. I stopped when they started doing this crap.

But this is a small expression of how political its become http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/07/s...d-permanently-from-monday-night-football.html

So a great opening song is "exorcized" because someone, Hank Williams, Jr exercised his first amendment right and spoke his mind outside the game? Song had nothing to do with anything said, but a political stand was taken by the network.

I think plenty of folks are not as in the dark about what is going on around them as you seem to think, and a lot are far more patriotic and appreciative of what the country stands for as well, both literally and figuratively.

Moronic post is moronic.
A debater does not just plunk down their own stupidity in response to a post that, if it is indeed stupid you pick it apart, debate what you disagree with point by point. Its not like there was not plenty of material,[ i.e., his post was not short and stupid as was yours ] for you to attack if you had any ammunition... but instead you chose the imbecilic path.

Your post, on the other hand, has nothing of substance, except its complete lack of anything intelligently spoken, to debate.

Funny how when liberals use these rights they are looked at 'traitors', but when conservatives use these rights they are 'patriots'.

I guess the soldiers who died protecting these rights died only so conservatives can use the freedom of speech and freedom to peacefully protest rights.

Monday night ratings down, again

The red bolded is NBC trying desperately to makes excuses...There is only ONE reason ratings are down, and it's the anthem boycotts...

And the problem is NOT simply believing what players are doing is disrespectful or offensive...

Here's the problem...and it's even if you AGREE with the players...

Most people come home from a hard day's work, kiss the spouse, hug their kids and maybe help them with their homework, have a nice meal, and then settle down to some entertainment to ESCAPE from the politics, punditry and activism that's shoved down their throat on a daily basis... They don't WANT to have to think about this stuff...It means little to them and they just want to watch the damn game!!!!...:yes

There's a quote from Erick Erickson, who runs the website "redstate", about the what goes on culturally...

"The Left will not let you stay on the sidelines. You will be MADE to care."

...and that's what going on with these anthem boycotts....

You want to get AWAY from the "daily grind" and sit back with a beer and NOT have to form opinions and have discussions on subjects you care little about and wished weren't discussed so you can just enjoy the on-field action?

Well "F*ck you!! Were NOT going to let you do that!"...

And the public is responding to that by not bothering to watch...There are so many more options to "escape" from the "daily grind" that WON'T force people to "care", and that's exactly what's happening...and it won't stop until the NFL decides to end these ideology stunts...

Goddammit. What isn't the left's fault in you people's eyes?

Ratings are still down. First time I have heard this theory:
I believe the most likely answer is one nobody seems to be talking about, but regardless of your political affiliation, we can all agree we’ve never seen a more bizarre presidential election season and I think the craziness and sensationalism is probably pulling some audience from all entertainment vehicles as we all watch one of the scariest comedies of all time.
Hub Arkush: NFL TV ratings are down, but should it be a major concern? | Football | stltoday.com

Maybe.

Going past the inanity of the post, those players that choose to sit during the national anthem have every right to do so - sad day for you.

But the real perversity in your post, which echoes the mindset of quite a few people, is that instead of fixing a problem, you whine about people protesting it. How about we make sure other people can afford to go back to their families unharmed and to have food on the table before we whine about having to put up with a minor inconvenience in a leisure activity we enjoy? I often scoff at cavils about privilege and entitlement, but your post oozes with both and an inability to empathize with others. What you're saying is that I want to get home after a hard day's work, kiss the wife, kiss the kids, have a nice meal and sit down to unwind without being bothered by the reality that there are others that don't even make it home alive at the end of the day. Such an upstanding citizen you are.

Perhaps the country is finally getting bored with handegg

I too feel like sports are getting a little too politically correct. And ESPN is almost unwatchable nowadays because of it. It's definitely a turn off.

Yeah, that's it, it is the left's fault people have so many options, and that there are so many televised football games, that the ratings for one game where down. Just ****ing brilliant!

There have always been a lot of televised football games. If you want to find a liberal excuse try one that isn't so silly.

I will say that for me, a life long football fan, I have actually stopped watching this year in part because of the politicization of the sport. But it isn't just the idiot millionaires protesting, it's also the idiot owners who think that they need to shake up the rules every damn season.

On the first Sunday of the season, after watching idiot ex-athletes trying to wax poetic about the struggle they went to a montage of some of the greatest plays in NFL history and I suddenly realized that a lot of them would be flagged for a penalty in today's game. At that point I turned the game off and haven't gone back.

One man's story, I know, but I am sure I'm not the only one.

And still the moronic observation of my post raises the level of the OP.

Ain't is just great?

Ahhh, your assessments are like the guy who mistakes fool's gold for the real thing. So, yes...great until you find out the reality.

The reality is that the OP post is moronically obtuse.

I do not typically come on site to trade silly and inane barbed comments, am here to debate.

So since your annoyingly useless posted comments leave such limited potential for intelligent point -counter point, lets do this. The definition of moronic is an adjective derived from the noun moron = a very stupid or foolish person

and for obtuse = not able to think clearly or to understand what is obvious or simple...

Now please show us how your ostensibly moronically obtuse comment can be determined to also fit the OP. I would also assert that your comment was more obtuse and considerably more moronic.

How about crappy teams.

What is there to debate about the OP, exactly?

Yet another ridiculously senseless and moronic post.

I'm not too up on the teams this year, but for the last 3 weeks I've been in my dive bar's pool, finished second the first week, second the 2nd week (no money in seconds), and won the 3rd week even though I lost the MNF game because everyone in second chose NO too.

I won $150...pays for the whole season, I'm 32-13 for all 3 weeks (no Thurs games), not sure how I did it though...

What is there to debate about the OP, exactly?
Did you read the OP by chance? Is your first language English?

Seems fairly simple to me. Do you agree that people are getting turned off and more and more are turning off the games due to celebrity players, commentators, etc... shoving their political belief systems on the fans that do not come to watch the game for such political statements? I am sure there could be more, but that seems a simple thing to start with.

So, did you just not understand or is it that this premise is not debatable to your mind, you think its the unequivocal truth?
