Donald Trump floated rolling back food safety regulations if he wins the White House in November. In a fact sheet posted online Thursday, the campaign highlighted a number of "specific regulations to be eliminated" under the GOP nominee's economic plan, including what they called the "FDA Food Police."

“The FDA Food Police, which dictate how the federal government expects farmers to produce fruits and vegetables and even dictates the nutritional content of dog food,” it read.

“The rules govern the soil farmers use, farm and food production hygiene, food packaging, food temperatures and even what animals may roam which fields and when,” the statement continued. "It also greatly increased inspections of food 'facilities,' and levies new taxes to pay for this inspection overkill."
The fact sheet was later removed from the website and a new fact sheet detailing Trump's economic agenda did not include mention of the FDA.

Throughout his campaign, Trump has often saw fit to blow various right wing dog whistles that are pet issues of the right wing. This is simply one more example.

I highly doubt if he gives a crap about it and is only placating the far right tea party sorts who whine and carp about milk regulations and the like.

It does show how craven and ridiculous he is however.

I think we can do away with the dog food department at the FDA. That sounds like a giant waste of money.

Yea **** that! I think our dogs should be eating lead process tacts mixed in with some of the food. We can call it the "spiked surprise".

Dogs have been around for a long time. There is no need to spend billions on regulating dog food. That's stupid.

There's no need for the FDA to regulate dirt, either. Another waste of money.

Yes, I realize that any decrease in government power is terrifying to you, but you can calm down. The world wont end if a few regulations are rolled back. The state doesn't have to wipe your butt for you, you know. You will be just fine.

People have been around for a long time too. Why should anything from humanity need to be regulated?

All, or nothing, eh? This post proves that Liberals possess zero common sense.

hell yea
we can be like the chinese:
... But any worries about contamination in Chinese exports pales compared to the danger that homegrown Chinese food poses to the country’s own citizens. Food safety scandals are rampant, and by some estimates as much as one fifth of the country’s soil is contaminated. Chinese who can afford it buy imported food whenever possible—and those who can’t just hope they’re lucky. Tainted pet food may get the headlines in the U.S., but food safety is far worse—for animals and people—in China itself.

China Petco Pet Food Scandal Is Just the Tip of a Toxic Iceberg

Exaggerate much? I'm pretty sure that no business would mix their food with tacts. Not even a dog food company. They wouldn't be able to survive the law suits much less get people to buy their dog food.

Seriously, how many regulations does the FDA and EPA put out each year? 2-3 thousand each I believe it is? I doubt that we actually need that many regulations. Humans have survived thousands of years without even a quarter of that many regulations. I wouldn't mind seeing a few rolled back myself.

In fact I'd like to see BOTH of those agencies shut down. The only ones that are supposed to make such regulations according to our Constitution is the Congress/Senate. Not some agency that are run by people that are not even elected by the people.

Read "Cannery Row", which actually gave a good reason for food regulation. See if you want to go back to the good ole' days before that book was written.

And Hillary, the homecoming queen embarrassed in 2008, only parrots policies that are already failing, ensuring more failure, and more hand outs.

Hooozah! Empty platitudes!

This sure doesn't sound like its implying a "few regulations being rolled back" it seems that its implying the whole FDA needs to go:

Now thats how we make American great again!

Nope. Showing how idiotic your justification was... "Well dogs have been around for a long time" :doh

Yea! Now we are getting somewhere! Now lets all make sure we get E. coli!

they are not actually elected by the people either. They are elected by money, and getting more bribes than the other guy.

He would still give the FDA funds to operate though, it sounds like, and that's a shame.

You seem to be reaching the bogus conclusion that reads something like--since some regulation might be necessary, therefore all regulations are good and necessary. The issue being addressed here is that some regulations can be rolled back--not all of them.

Care to read what it was before the FDA existed? It's visibly described in Upton Sinclair's "the jungle."

Great idea. Let's get rid of of those agencies and all their scientists and experts and turn it over to a hopelessly partisan and deadlocked political body.

Why, what could possibly go wrong?

Nope, I didn't say all, but unlike some, I do realize that some regulations are very necessary because some people and corporations are so greedy that they have no problem putting peoples' lives at risk in order to make a buck. Greed is not necessarily a bad thing, but it must be balanced by reason.

Empty promises.

Ugh, someone use "The Jungle" as the reason why we needed the FDA.
Well, that book was total fiction, Upton Sinclair was trying to encourage the unionization of the meat packing industry and wrote an exaggerated tale.
It was investigated and found to be fallacious, but the accidental idea had already been implanted and thus the FDA was born.

Are you saying that the meat packing plants were nice and clean and properly run?
