The breakout media star of 2016 is, inarguably, Donald Trump, who has masterfully—and horrifyingly—demonstrated an aptitude for manipulating the news cycle, gaining billions of dollars worth of free airtime, and dominating coverage on every screen. Now, several people around him are looking for a way to leverage his supporters into a new media platform and cable channel.
Pretty much confirms to me that Trump is not looking to win an election, but to use his presidential run as a springboard for another reality TV show. Trump has gone so far as to contact NBC, floating an idea that, if he actually won, he could continue his show "The Apprentice" from inside the White House itself.
Should Trump win the election, is a new era of politics about to begin? Would Trump, in his show, tell the Secretary of State "You're fired" on national TV? Would disputes in Congress be settled on episodes of the Jerry Springer show? Would negotiations with foreign nations be done on episodes of "The Price is Right"? And, finally, would Trump's eventual impeachment trial be presided over by Judge Judy?
