In the US at any rate, ANY group of people under a banner can claim to be a religion. So painting with a pretty broad brush over here can work.

I didn't post the definition. And I disagree with it because it is so broad as to encompass any and all groups out there. Apparently even you thought it could encompass a communist group. That alone shows that it is far too broad and not a correct definition of "religion".

It is the definition. And it isn't as broad as you try to make it out, particularly the first one. Do any of those groups you mentioned claim to have agreed upon beliefs related to "the cause, nature, and/or purpose of the universe"?

You know, it's not very surprising that a secular definition of sacred activity is somewhat vague. If and when the school allows this after school club, the question is whether they are permitting it and perhaps funding it in the spirit of social welfare (our framers' legal inclusion), or in the spirit of competition in a public venue (our framers' ideas of freedom).
