Concord, North Carolina man arrested for not returning VHS tape - CNN.com
A man pulled over in a routine traffic stop found himself behind bars over a long-overdue copy of the Tom Green comedy "Freddy Got Fingered."

The North Carolina man, James Meyers, was pulled over for a broken brake light. When the Concord, NC officers ran a check on his driver's license it showed an outstanding warrant for a movie he had rented and failed
Holy cow, I hope I never get pulled over. There's a copy of Driving miss Daisy on Betamax that I never returned! Mods please move to MSM.

What kind of ****ed up laws do they have in NC that allows a business to issue a warrant for failure to return a movie rental? Can I get the cops to issue a warrant to my neighbor for never returning my shovel 12 years ago? That'd be a hoot!

...what on earth gave you the idea that a business issued a warrant for anything?

Actually I said laws in NC that allow the warrant to be issued.... but I don't expect you to understand the nuance, nor possibly the implied meaning in the link from the OP, which stated:

CNN said:
"The guy brings me to the back of the car and he goes: 'Sir, I don't know how to tell you this, but there's a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented a movie, 'Freddy Got Fingered,' and you never returned it,'" he recounted the officers telling him in a video posted to YouTube.

Please... don't comment further. I really have very little interest in discussing your misinterpretation of the CNN story and my post about it. It's just not worth my time.

Perhaps you'd like to clarify.

Let's face it: the man stole some property. This isn't some scenario in which a guy was a day late and got arrested. The video store never got its tape back. So it probably sent letters. Repeatedly. The tape never came back. So they sent more letters demanding payment for the tape in full. Tape never came back, store never got paid. So they reported stolen property.

He got a warrant issued for an unresolved theft allegation. Maybe he moved and just wasn't getting the letters, who knows.

will they be pressing charges?

Easy way to find out. Instead of making a guess, based on a thread that you necroed, that is close to a year old, google it, and look for results in the last year. LOL.

Thank God they got this outlaw off the streets! I feel much safer now!

The store that doesn't exist anymore?

The Blockbusters just closed here in Mexico.

They were the last hold outs.
