It may be that some of what Mitt Romney said about Donald Trump was right after all. He may not be the business man he makes himself out to be. I found this article on MSN.com which claims that Donald Trump doesn't own most of the products he bragged about recently. The MSN.com article links to various sources for the products Trump lamented, such, as Trump Wine and Trump steaks. When I reviewed the Trump Wine website, specifically, the Terms and Conditions page, I found this little gem at the very bottom:

Trump Winery is a registered trade name of Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing LLC, which is not owned, managed or affiliated with Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their affiliates.

(Note: The MSN.com article mentions this, too. But I just had to find it on the website for myself.)

Who is Eric Trump you might ask? He's Donald Trump's son from his marriage to Ivana Trump. So while the Donald is out giving the impression that he owns Trump Wine, he really doesn't. It's his son's business. But it get's better, folks.

Trump Steaks? It doesn't appear that those he presented at his press conference yesterday were his either. A close up of the packaging shows the steaks come from The Bush Brothers Provisions Company, a meat distribution company that been in existence since 1925.

The article also talks about Trump Water, Trump Airline and Trump and Trump Magazine and calls their ownership into question.

That's not to say Donald Trump might not be invested in any of the companies that are still in operations and are selling the products he's mentioned or those that actually bear the Trump name or that he might not have been majority owner of those that are still in business, such as, his son's winery, at some point, but the examples I've listed above which are also mentioned in the OP article clearly are not owned by him.

Seems the secrets are starting to come out on Donald Trump's entrepreneurship and apparently things aren't exactly as they seem.

Oh, good God.

Thousands of businesses claim to own products made from unknown subcontracted entities.

Hate to break it to you...but there aren't such things as Keebler elves either.

Trump also tried to appeal to Hawaii voters by arguing that he owned a hotel in that state that employed a lot of people....

... he doesn't. The hotel has the right to use the franchise name, and is owned by completely different people.

When asked under oath in court, Trump admitted that his valuation of his net worth, what he owned and what he didn't, changed with his feelings.

Stay tuned for more crazy train. His supporters don't care if he lies (repeatedly) to them, so he'll be here for a bit.

I understand the concept. It's called "wholesale distributorships" or contract producers. You buy a product from a wholesaler or distributor and place your label on the product or packaging. Happens all the time.

There's also the business of contracting with a manufacturer to produce a product per your specifications and then having your company's label placed on it. Another common business practice. Neither, however, are what Donald Trump is claiming or presenting as fact.

He's claiming and/or giving the appearance in most of these cases, that HE owns the company of which most of these products are produced when in really HE doesn't. They are just products that currently or once bore his name.

THERE IS LITERALLY NO LONGER IS SUCH A THING AS A TRUMP STEAK. They LITERALLY just grabbed some steaks and tried to pretend that THEY WERE SOMETHING THAT THEY NEVER WERE. There IS NO MORE TRUMP MAGAZINE. It is OUT OF PRINT, IT DOES NOT EXIST, WHAT HE HELD UP WAS A HOTEL BROCHURE.

Good God, I thought that the willfull blindness and self-delusion around the 2008 Obama Personality Cult was bad.

BUT THEY DIDN"T. The Steaks bore the label Bush Brothers. The water was just regular bottles that he had some labels slapped on. The Magazine didn't even say Trump Magazine on it, it was a brochure from one of his hotels!

The problem is he's passing off these businesses as his own and people are buying it hook, line and sinker. What's worse is even when the evidence is presented to folks that some of his claims are false, you get attacked for bringing out the truth. (See post above).

It would be one thing if Donald Trump claimed that he owned a product distribution center or a wholesale warehouse or something like that - anything similar to an Amazon.com where in his case products are purchased in bulk and he redistributed them under the Trump name or anything close to that, but that doesn't appear to be the case with some of his so-called business products (i.e., Trump Steaks). Moreover, some of his businesses and/or product lines are actually out of business as you and the MSN.com article makes abundantly clear. And yet people still believe the hype. UNBELIEVABLE!

There is a Trump water its sold or given out as an amenity at hotels and facilities with the Trump brand. There were Trump steaks but I don't think they are sold anymore. I guess they were being sold on QVC but not many sold. QVC isn't exactly where I would sell a high priced steak. Trump magazine quit printing in 2009.
Trump Airlines was bought out in 1997 by American Airlines. Trump Winery is real obviously.

So these were are real at one time but as noted the Steaks, the Airline and the Magazine are not in business under the Trump name.

It may be that what Romney said about Trump is correct? No, it's a given that what Romney said was correct. Anyone with one eye and half a brain can see that Trump is a con man.

I think his hotel was actually built in Kenya. Show me the building certificate (long form, of course).

Trump bought the profitable shuttle operations of Eastern Airlines in 1989, as that airline jettisoned assets in its futile attempt to stay alive (Eastern shuttered in 1991). Trump ran the shuttle for three years, never making a profit (while Eastern did).... and the banks forced him to sell it to USAir in 1992 (USAir bought American Airlines in 2014 and assumed that brand)

you set a mighty high bar to be able to agree with you
but i agree with you

I thought this was somewhat acknowledged beforehand. Perhaps not the qualifier "most," but "substantial" at the very least. Trump is a brand that product makers seek to attach themselves to.

And how do you manage a casino into bankruptcy? The math guarantees the house wins. That takes an exceptional businessman.

The Trumpettes aren't the brightest. Obviously.

Or we are operating a few levels above you and appreciated the show and the effort and the fun.

The bulk or Trumpettes are these guys. You must get the warm and fuzzys.

I had a Grandpa that did not get past the 6th grade, and he was just about the most wise person I have ever known.

Be careful.

EDIT: but most people do have powerful handheld computers on them at all times now, I cant explain the pic.

Well I'm sure you love your grandpa and wisdom is relative. Course ya have to factor in how many people you know and divide by your education level... ;)

I had a PSG who ran our platoon- 1st plt. didn't have an officer by tradition- he couldn't read or write much, when the Company Commander found out my PSG left the Plt. I'd follow him to the lower hinges of Hell, but pretty sure he wouldn't do well in other occupations.

There are many wise people in this Country, just sad how few run for office- (I'd say that is a good indicator of their wisdom)

Unfortunately, it's pretty easy. Look at Caesars. Look at Revel.

I can't stand Trump and can name about 1000 reasons I think he's a fraud, con man, and liar, but of the 2 bankrupt Trump casinos in Atlantic City, one is still open (Taj Mahal), and his bankrupt property in NYC (the Plaza) is also still open. These are not really a reason to attack Trump. There are other legitimate ones.

Who's funding Trump's presidential campaign?

For a self-funder, much of it seems to be donations. The money he himself is putting up is structured as a "loan", which he apparently intends to pay back to himself using donations he plans to get in the General.

CP- while I share your loathing of Trump and DO NOT want him to be President of the USA , I think this is stuff that is getting into the deep weeds and means precious little to voters.
