Nancy Reagan dead at 94

No tear will be shed by me over this death.

I don't blame you for that. She nor her husband were good for the country, but now she's gone as well. My best wishes go out to the family.

Wow I had no idea she was still alive. I'm flabbergasted each time I learn someone from a distant era is still alive or has recently died.

As for how history will treat her, and I'm assuming this is hinging on her involvement on the war on drugs, it should treat her well, even if times have changed and a scourge is being lauded as a delight.

"just say no" and the war on drugs have been an unmitigated failure,
No, it's usually those who Just Say Yes to drugs who turn out to be the failures. If her advice isn't followed it's hardly her fault.

Just saw this on my local news

Nancy Reagan -- Dead at 94 | TMZ.com

"The former first lady was living in Bel Air and has been in failing health in recent years".

I wonder how history will treat her?
Sad, but we all must move on to the next level.
She was and should be remembered as one of the great First Ladies of all time.

Nancy will be interred next to her beloved husband at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

what did she accomplish that would cause us to celebrate her "as one of the great First Ladies of all time"?

She brought class and charm to the White House, qualities the present generation wouldn't understand.

Oh? Please enlighten us as to how that is?

I realize that you don't respond well to facts, but the facts prove that kids that went through the DARE program were just as likely to use as those who didn't. Those are the facts. Let's put it another way. Just say no was about as effective as Bristol Palin's abstinence program.

what she and her husband offered wasn't advice, it was actively ruining the lives of harmless weed users by throwing them in prison

it also had 0 effect on reducing drug use so if nothing else, "just say no" was an unmitigated failure simply by waste of resources

if that's the only role of a first lady, they don't deserve to be in the news or even the white house - just put em up in a hotel room nearby or give em a starring role on "desperate housewives"

government is meant for serious people with actual authority

Or Clinton.... he couldn't walk by a black male without throwing him in prison.

Again, they used drugs despite the possible consequences and quite probably ruined their lives. They should have Just Said No.

Like many people I've also used recreational drugs and was prepared to take the risk. Also, like many others, I realized it wasn't that great and eventually just walked away. But whatever happened was on me and I wouldn't blame Nancy Reagan, or any other person, for my personal decisions.

i agree, clinton was as much a culprit in the "new jim crow" as anyone. But i never claimed to like him either, or his own first lady

People make life choices. Blaming other people for one's addiction is BS.

not blaming her for their addictions but for them being in jail and screwed out of future opportunities instead of in treatment, yes

I've always respected her and her husband. They were a symbol of a different time that some of us actually alive then relive with some fond memories.
I didn't agree with all of her husband's policies but that hardly means she deserves to be drug through the mud in death. She was far from Hitler.

Top Cat is right though, you should never start any program to try to end drug abuse or similar problems because your program might fail. Better to not try at all.

The First Lady has actual authority? Having intelligence and class is not a detriment.

she doesn't, so she doesn't deserve any of our attention much less to run national programs

Why? You just proved my point with the question.

Translated for you: I, Grant, can not back up my claims simply because they aren't true.
