In Exchange for Scoop, Hillary Team Dictated Reporter's Story

He backed away too late.

Grant, it's never too late. He has to take his critical lumps, to be sure, but he recognized and has publicly acknowledged his wrong. He will be a better journalist as well as a better person for it.

Anyone with a computer and internet access can be a 'journalist' these days.

I honesty feel that there is too much of this stuff going on, and from every side. It's like a giant lie happening every moment and we're surrounded by it on all sides. I don't think liars, and I'm thinking it came easy to him because of the confidence Hillary's handlers had, should ever work in the industry again. What real skills are required to put down a few coherent sentences?

What's truly required is integrity and people either have it or haven't. Certainly as a teenager this can be overlooked once, but not as an adult expecting public trust.

No, I don't know this and would like to see evidence that is "common practice." I don't believe this.

And as I pointed out in another thread, the reporter recognizes his wrong and says when journalism becomes "transactional," it's time to step away...which he did.

There's entire media industry tied to protecting and giving voice to the Right Wing candidates and elected officials. I listen to one every night on the way home from work. You honestly think Sean Hannity would ever out one of the guys he is books for interviews a couple times a week? Please.

I Sean Hannity or anyone else in the media is caught following the directions of politicians then he should be fired right away, and I suspect he would be. The same holds true for those who consistently lie, or twist the facts to support their political point of view.

We can all have different opinions, and freely voice them, but we need access to the same facts as well.

Sean Hannity has not spread any of the dirt that I read on the web this week about the two insurgent candidates he interviews regularly. He does spread dirt about the establishment candidates he does not like or interview. And, he actually makes stuff up (misrepresents the facts) about the Democrats constantly. Do I doubt that he makes backroom deals to spread slime on X in return for more interviews with Y? Are there beaches in Monaco?

I read these claims a lot on these boards but trying to get substantiation with any credible links is almost impossible. It therefore makes any debate impossible as well.

I believe the original assertion was this--deals between politicians and journalists trading access for information--happens all the time. Do you doubt this?

I don't know it so can't assert it. I believe it happens, and certainly understand that there will be highlights and omissions from opinion makers, but my beliefs can only remain beliefs. Same as yours.

What happens when the media suppresses certain facts? What happens when the government does not honor FOIA requests?

If the Freedom of Information Act is not being followed then and competing interests in the media must try to discover why not. They also need to report the names of the individuals making these decisions, not just the departments.

The arrival of Talk Radio and Fox News was a Godsend for those interested in differing points of view, as well as increasing competition among news gathering organizations. The Internet is now bring information to a much larger audience as well.

I'm betting you have never filed one. I have filed ONLY one, but it was just a typical exercise in dealing with government bureaucracy. Still, there are many cases of such requests being simply ignored. They are, after all, the government.

Right. I have never filed one but I believe you.

now that is shocking

mostly shame on the "reporter" - arent they supposed to have ethics too?

The bigger issue at hand is, not that Hillary's team did this, but that the "journalist" has any job in journalism.
They should be unequivocally removed from any position in journalism.

exactly

The trouble is that at the highest levels, today's mainstream media play the same game--they print only the stories that are favorable to a certain agenda determined by the owners. And with major media owned by fewer and fewer individuals and companies, the practice is rampant.

I just finished Sharyl Attkisson's book "Stonewalled", and that is the situation as she describes it at CBS anyway.

hmm, its almost like "the news" is an advertisement

Might have to start reading the National Enquirer to get honest reporting or something.
funny thing was they caught jon edwards when the MSM somehow couldnt or wouldnt. think they had a hand in gary hart scandal too. must be a sad day at ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN when you got scooped by the National Enquirer, lol.

This sadly happens constantly. Deadspin, The Smoking Gun, TMZ, National Enquirer......they get the stories. That's because the MSM is basically just a political enabling wing for the DNC nowdays (Fox for the RNC).

It was Matt Drudge that broke the Lewinsky scandal, too.

yeah reminds me of what they did to Herman Cain.

for ol Bill "we didnt have 50,000 corroboratin witnesses"
but for Herman - "boy, we've got an anonymous friend of an anonymous source, is you ready to throw in the towel yet?"
