Katy couple charged in bizarre servant slavery case

Re: Modern day slavery

There were periods back when I worked in embassies that my wife and I had a live-in nanny. This is a person that you trust with the lives of your children when you are not present. I cannot for the life of me understand how you could treat that person with anything but the utmost respect.

Re: Modern day slavery

Like I said in the thread about: Keighley abuse: Twelve men jailed for sexually exploiting girl.

This is another example of a Culture Clash. What is acceptable practice in certain cultures, is almost always immoral and illegal in western cultures.

Re: Modern day slavery

The article doesn't seem to say, but with a name like Nsobundo, the couple might be Nigerian themselves. Slavery is an old tradition in some societies.

Frequently, those who practice violence against others were themselves victims of violence at some part of their early life.

Re: Modern day slavery

I wonder what will happen to the nanny.
